    He is 5 1/4" long and 2 1/4" tall. weighing in at 12 oz.
    And he is Beautiful.

    He's awesome,very nicely done-reminds fondly of the hippo on the Disney Jungle Cruise (circa 1960's).
    'This beautiful green stone of Africa is also known as Budstone or African Jade'.

    It is also verdite, just a more dark and even-toned green.

    I saw one like that when searching, had a baby with it. Sold for a couple hundred dollars!

    Yes,I have see that. But not those prices in South Africa. Obviously lots of African souvenir and tourist carvings here. This one was under $3 in a charity shop.

    Looks like he/she just emerged from pond full of green algae. Very nice carving especially for that price. Someone once again asleep at the thrift store wheel house.
