I just sold something recently for $400 that i found for $7.00.I proudly crowed to my Wife (an Accountant for 40 years) of this achievement.
We've been married for 42 years, and she knows all my tricks !
Then she opened her online spreadsheets and said-'Here's all the Mutual Funds,CD's,etc-I've been working on for the last four decades.'
I looked the returns and went a bit quiet...
'Now how many hours, days, months have you put into driving, picking, restoring & selling in the last 40 years ?'.
I feebly tried calculating the work hours I'd invested in all that time-hmm.
    All I could say was-'Well ya...but it's fun'.
I'm just grateful I married a brilliant lady whose put up with me for all this time.

    don't sell yourself short.........

u flipped that item fast.....faster than a mutual fund.....

& how much fun watching numbers has brought into her life.....

She's a real Renaissance Lady with an incredibly broad set of interests-stocks,travel,hell of a gardener, art, industrial design.
She doesn't do it much-but her eye's such, that she picks as well (maybe better) than me.
    Me-I'm a one-trick pony !

oh, I'm sure she was a find ..........

but that don't make you any less.......

and she should be there to celebrate your good fortune......not belittle your efforts..:(

Sorry.....but the way you tell this one story.....leaves me ...:meh::meh::meh:

    So.....!!

Congrats on the find, on that fine pick & sale !!!!!!!!;)
    You done well !!!!

She's always encouraging, but she knows when i'm buying out of passion-or just to make a buck. Some things she still flips out about.Only bought for love in the old days-but money pollutes.

I would like to clarify a wee point, bosco...I was a picker for ~50 years, until I reformed upon the realization that I had enough stuff, an' I wasn't gonna live long enough to get rid of much of it.
I want to emphasize that I don't consider myself abnormal in that evaluation...nor, imho, are you. I won't factor the economics of that half-century...nor should any of us nobly engaged in our calling. For me, it has been every bit as much a social exercise as one of acquisition, an' I feel deeply enriched by the folks I've met & befriended in the pursuit of all these odd treasures...not to mention the delight of having provided an admittedly temporary resting place for a goodly number of remarkable objects. I doubt you can find much in the above to differentiate your experience from mine. You're one of us...I'm one of you. Wallow in your unique history of picking' experiences...savor every moment, an' each one of the very many delightful baubles you've plucked.
Thanks for listening', good sir...No Blame, Blessed Be!

Well said Whit.I enjoyed picking for the last four & a half decades more than playing tennis, golfing, trawling for minnows or mowing the lawn.
It didn't leave much time for writing a Nobel Prize winning cache of books or being Dr. Schweitzer in Africa-but it was a hoot, and still makes me smile when my creaky knees take me out hunting.
...and i still did it when i had a full-time job.Not finding too many Gutenberg Bibles these days,so the pension comes in handy.
PS-Plus the salary took a lot of the tension out of pretending Ebay would support me !

LOL, very similar to my husband and me, but in reverse! My endeavours cost us money whereas anything my husband does makes money! PS: we have been married 42 years -- 43 this October.:D

Now I'll sound like a bit of an Old Chauvinist, but I did use to say to the younger ladies at work, many of whom were swooning over budding poets or musicians (which I was at one time)-'You know it's not a venal sin to marry a rich guy',which many of my clients did, sometimes serially (...rinse & repeat).
They'd roll their eyes and laugh, and I'm sure many of my customers had their own personal hells as we all do-they just didn't suffer thru them broke.
I was just very fortunate & hit the big lotto, trifecta and then some.

We are one of the few people we know still married to our firsts. We got lucky. And I do.
