Found this a few days ago and while African art isnt my thing usually, this fellow just intrigued me. Its 3x3 and signed "J. Muli" and I think its by Joseph Muli but thats not for sure. The face is so finely done ,as is the textured wrap hes wearing. I knew it was well done if nothing else. Any thoughts are always welcome.

Nice piece. Looking at his forehead, the bottom, and considering his size - is it possible he is carved ivory rather than wood?

Funny you should say that because I thought at first it might be resin or some sort of stone but its wood. Not heavy like stone or ivory would be.

Definitely wood, and nice wood at that.

Found some stuff on Friday, but nothing worth showing. (the historical society running the sale started selling FIVE HOURS early. Four hours before the sale started I found about $70 less than I was prepared to buy) Saturday was a church sale I wasn't familiar with. The church people were great, but the dealers who lined up early at the same time I did? Not so much. Darned near knocked me down. That said, I found these two on Thursday. The 10x14 oil on masonite sailboat isn't signed. (checked front and back). The big still life/flower painting was hand-mounted on its stretcher by someone. Signed Matthew or Matthews, nobody in particular, but it's pretty. I plan to sell the sailboat and possibly hang the flowers. Price for the pair? About $8. (the legit charity shop lady offered them to me for $5 the pair, but I wouldn't take any change. )

Very much like the still life, especially the bold distinctively-paned window and the spinning motion created by the doily. Someone had fun with that.

The color balance in the snapshot is off a bit, but I agree. Someone did a nice job.

    I scored this weekend!

It was the day of Hot Wheels, I brought home 3, for as many euros for the lot.
1st: 1979 Airport Rescue Fire Truck in red (rare color), made in France. 2 sold on ebay this month for 56 and for 127 dollars.
2nd: 1974 First Aid Emergency Unit, also made in France. Beat up in terms of paint, but this is now the oldest in my collection, produced 8 years after Hot Wheels started in '68.
3rd: A 1975 silver and blue flame corvette, which is the rare color out of that line.

There was also lots of jewelry, most of which I passed up except for 3 pieces. A pair of older earrings (I think), a modern costume ring that will pay for everything purchased, and THIS:

    IMG_20230522_194339.jpg

A Maggy Rouff Paris necklace. Maggy was a couture fashion and costume designer from 1929-1948. Her daughter took over the brand until it shut down in 1965. I think this is early 60s peice.
Here's her wikipedia if anyone's interested, very interesting:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maggy_Rouff

I've only found 5 jewelry peices online, 3 on WP, 1 unsold on ebay, and 1 on another website. I'm not sure what the value on this is, I'm going to try and do more research on the brand in general. It looks so far like her early accessory work is collectible, as well as her clothing and prints/sketches/ads. Not so sure about this. Its not my style so I'll be moving it on, but for 2 euros I'm bound to make a profit and it'll make someone very happy.

WHY is the photo blurry, its not that way on my phone :banghead:

Small image on phone, larger one on computer = image that's bound to be blurrier. Never heard of this designer, but we Americans got pitifully little European costume during that era.

True, but the car pic was taken/moved/resized at the same time as the necklace and its clear. Tech things I guess haha.

I'd never heard of her either until I looked up the mark! Its nice I get to learn about French history this way.

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

This could be in Tribal, but the truth is it was a find, from last fall.

Years ago I came upon an Iroquois stone carving from artist Wayne Sky.
I'll try to find a photo, but needless to say I was entranced by his ability to capture the soul of the stone and bring his vision to life.
    I eventually sold it.......a mistake....but an honest one !

While shopping in a ritzy part of town, I went into an antique store I'd never been in...just to see what's what.
When I saw this standing there , mixed in with objects of no relation to it whatsoever....I fell fell hard , reminded of the work I'd let get away from me.

( that other one , of a merman holding a dead fish and crying out to Mother Nature in despair ....if u can imagine that ....is 10x the carving this one is .... but this one has it's own gravitas ...)

I thought the owners son was going to ask for my left nut......but I inquired about the price anyways.
He turned it over , showing a $350 tag on the base.
Worth every penny to me......but that's not how the game is played......so showing minor interest, I asked for his best cash price !
When he said $160.........I couldn't get the wallet out of my pocket fast enuf......!

    I walked out of there........on air !

It weighs a ton and is 11 inches tall.
In near mint condition...with a flea bite here and there...
