Hi - wonder if anyone could tell me anything about this chair? I bought a pair of them from a London dealer about 20 years back but he knew nothing about them. Now wondering about recovering them but saw this forum and hoped someone might know the age, origin or even the name of this style of chair?

Would be grateful for any thoughts - Peter

    Welcome here, Peter...
    Is that a leather covering?
Someone with deeper knowledge will be along soon to answer your questions. Nice piece of furniture!

Don't know the age, don't know the origin, but I would think this is a variation on the Savronarola chair. The blue is attractive (except for the the lumpy back pillow), and looks on my screen like suede. ??

Chair also looks considerably more comfy than the original versions!

Yes, I've seen some of the Savronarola shaped chairs but I've not seen them fully covered like this. It has a round back with some ridged detail too - apologies for not adding another pic. The leather is a soft, almost nubuck leather and it's a light chocolate brown. They are very comfy but you tend to start sliding out of them - they're very long.

There were no fully covered chairs in Savonarola's days (15th century), they used separate cushions if necessary.
But I can see why @silverbell thinks this a variation of a Savonarola chair, there is that ancient Rome and Renaissance look in the rounded X-shape.
    It is unusual.

I've added a couple of small ref photos so you can see the feet and headrest...

Nice-It reminds me of a Regency version of a 'club chair',but i'm no furniture expert at all-just a quick thought bubble.Looks quite wide-enough for 2 to cuddle !

I'm not of a size to share the seat I'm afraid - too much linguine - but they are quite grand/baronial when they're placed together! Here's the other one but it's in a separate room. Anyone care to hazard a decade when they were made?

Just an educated guess but think 30s or so.

Thanks, the curves always struck me as a bit Art Deco but the feet/rails and studs don't look right. Imagine I'll have to keep the studs if I recover them. I'll try to narrow search down to 30s and see if I can find a similar chair as a ref.
