Went out today, not much happening, but found some crazy stuff which I will photograph later. This was my favorite find, from a yard sale. The lady made some jewelry, and it was pricey at $20 (clasp may be sterling, she said it is, there is a very tiny mark that's hard to see.) Posting this on the jewelry board with questions. Once I saw it, I was a goner.

 

I love those odd-shaped freshwater pearls too.

Today I went out at 7am or even a hair under for a neighborhood sale that started at 8. First three, I was wondering if I made a mistake not going to a church sale. Next house... paydirt. Raw garnet ring, signed BB. May or may not be gold and I don't care. Honker of a sterling bracelet. Then... oh dear Lord. There was a guy getting rid of his late wife's QVC hoard. I cheefully helped him de-hoard and bonded over baseball and going to the same university. He was the teaching assistant for a class I could never get into and would have cheerfully worked myself to death in. I ended up getting things for about 1/2 the price he was charging everyone else.

I'll have to get pictures up later, but...whee. Went to a church sale and an estate sale and went back later and scored two 14k bracelets and a 14k necklace along with other bits..$20.

Best shopping day I've had in forever.

I'm half past dead. Happy, but dead. Still wearing the ring. I still can't believe the other woman put it back! She thought it was gold-filled.

 

I am really tired, too. I will have more energy tomorrow and post the very few things I found. Rest.

 

I have some halfway OK photos. The ring is just marked BB in a diamond shape. Need to research. Scratches as 14k though. The stone is a pyrope garnet, probably cut by Mother Nature. The setting was made for the stone, looks like. The bangles are costume. The little pharaoh is an MMA replica. The egg is marked Ges(chect) and the Prada perfume is..Prada.

There are also two 14k and gemstone tennis bracelets, a 14k bead necklace, sterling necklaces, a Pandora bracelet, two heavy sterling bracelets, Nadri earrings of unknown composition. Zuni style neclace with beads and inlay. Costume earrings too. Big hunk of Venetian glass (unless someone knows better), paperweight that's probably heade to my sister and BIL, and two Beswick horses still out in the trunk of my car.

Oh yeah. The three watches - Judith Ripka, Invicta (the pink jelly) and the STERLING Judth Ripka.

I'll try. Take another crack at the ring too, to see if I can get a shot of the mark. It didn't want to play nice last night.

 

Some recent items spotted at thrift stores, the first few taken at charity shops over in England where I recently visited some family. Didn't buy anything, though.

 

I wouldn't take that ring off, either.

The little pearl garnet bracelet has a 14k clasp. The darker faux pearls were $3, but someone put a 14k clasp on them.

There was a woman who made jewelry. It was a shame what she broke up to do it. She had some intact pieces for $3 each I rescued. She was upset she wasn't selling what she made. If people only knew...

And I spent more than I wanted for this MOP and coral strand, GF clasp, at the antique mall where the owner loupes everything I pick up. He was ticked off I found this for $8. He said "You've got to be kidding me!" Sigh.

That vintage cake holder is really nice. I have only found one in my travels and it was in bad shape. From what I recall they sell nicely or you could use it in your kitchen.

 

Thanks. I have a two round ones. The square one has a small dent on the top of one corner, but it was love at first sight.

 

The square ones are harder to find, because so are square cake pans. I have a square springform kicking around somewhere. Never used it but always wanted to.

Wore it to church today (Sunday). Sad to say no one even looked at it that I know of.

You definitely found some stuff, and the price was right. The corals are probably worth what you paid for the lot. Or more.

I didn't think they were anything special - tennis style bracelets made of semi-precious stones that appear heat or radiation-treated to me. But they're pretty.

 

I’ve been wanting to find a vintage croquet set and this is a bit worse for the wear but it was only $5! The “feet“ are new, I had to replace them as one was missing. I’m debating whether or not to repaint the colored stripes on all the pieces, they're especially worn away on the balls.
Any guesses as to age? The logo decal looks pretty old. South Bend Toy Company was established in 1888, became a subsidiary of Playskool in 1960 and then of the Milton Bradley Company in 1968. MB eventually became a subsidiary of Hasbro. South Bend Toy closed in 1985.
How can I treat the wood to preserve it... a product that won't be sticky and collect dirt when the balls are rolling around on the grass...?

EDIT: I'm coming across claims of 1920s/30s for toys using this particular logo.

LOL, someone repurposed their croquet set stand! (Has the same logo and blue paint color as mine, no mention of possible age.)

 

Guess that's one thing to do with it.

Someone asked for better photos of some of my finds this weekend. The first try, the SD card wasn't in the camera right or something. No photos taken despite taking them. So....

First set. Two 14k and semi-precious stone bracelets. The paperweight looks Italian. The sides and top have a dimple in them, distorting the way the insides look.
