I loved this painting as soon as I saw it - my first thought was that it was a WPA era painting & I bought it without doing any google search because it was priced at only $7.99.
But when I got home & took some photos to try to find out who the artist Roberts was, google image showed my same painting on eBay & Invaluable! (eBay said the listing ended because the painting was no longer available & invaluable said the lot was passed on.
I'm guessing it was posted in both places by the same owner (eBay seller is located in Pennsylvania) - but how it ended up in a thrift store in Miami, Florida I'll never know!
Both listings called it Newman decor - what is that?
Both also said it was circa 1940's airbrushed painting, but the eBay listing also added it was a airbrushed watercolor - what the heck is that?
The back made me think it was on masonite or some kind of board?
Most importantly I am hoping someone can tell me who the artist Roberts was/is?
And any thoughts on the painting - there's something about it's look that I think is so cool! Is it - or is it just a weekend artist?
As always I appreciate all your help guys!

PS - first set of pics taken inside with my phone's camera's flash & 2nd set taken by open door with natural light coming in - any difference?

I tried to ask if the board on back was against an old piece of cardboard instead of masonite as I first thought - because little pieces chip off easily when I tried to remove a nail?

I also realized I didn't add a link to the eBay listing (I apologize; I just woke up & I'm waiting on coffee to finish percolating!). Here is eBay link to this painting: 1930's-40's Newman Decor Airbrushed Original Watercolor Painting Signed Roberts | eBay

I also found a similar style painting when I googled Newman decor painting - with a similar name(!); please tell me this isn't just factory art??
Has anyone heard of Newman decor? The similar painting (link is here - I remembered!) was found on Collector's Weekly; is Newman decor art collectible?
Thanks again - sorry for mistakes & forgetting, it's early for me. Link below:

It's sort-of factory art. Personally, I like this stuff. Sort-of a stenciled watercolor.

    Here's a Newman Decor label:

Left to my own devices, I'd have a lot of them. As it is, I do have several of the type. There are collectors.

Newman wasn't the only manufacturer. They were designed by artists for quasi-mass production. Affordable decorator pieces. Artist's names you'll find include Bernard and Harris.

Never take my word on a valuation, but I think that's a very ambitious price.

From the look of it, you probably have the original matting and frame. Those are pluses.

I like it too. Very regionalist. Pretty much an homage to Thomas Hart Benton.

A very good reference above. 'The Benton Farm.' Artist known for his "layered curves" and "bold contours."
