What is the date of the painting in your opinion? The picture was painted in 1920-30?The frame is clearly newer than the painting.

The Baltic countries were independent at that time and had a population of only 2 million.
Romania, by the way, at that time was larger than the Netherlands in terms of population, 9 million against 14)).
There were 7 million people in Belgium at that time. That is, there were enough countries at that time in Europe in terms of population less than Romania)).
This is if we take the years 1930-40))

Which are the Bali countries, SSlava? It is not a term we use.
Anyway, the point was that Romania was much smaller than USSR, population wise, so it can't be compared to the USSR.

    :joyful:
Yes, the Baltic countries were independent at the time, as they are now, and they have a small population.
That doesn't change the fact that Romania was much smaller than USSR, population wise, and can't be compared to the USSR.;)

I'd think that was a coal wagon. Anyone else have thoughts?

Nearest picture I found was a WW1 Austro- Hungarian transport wagon. It has the bow shaped wooden stays attached to each wheel and the long shaft between the two horses. The bow shaped stays seemed to go from wheel on one side over the wagon to the opposite wheel so that a canvas cover could be attached for bad weather.Thesewooden frames seem to have been cut on the wagon in the picture and wagon adapted for some other purpose

Two horses so meant to haul something heavy.

Nothing showing on the wagon,so like the artist we'll probably never know.More than likely painted in 1920s IMO

What is this painted on? I was basing my dating on the fact that it looks like particle board and the frame. If it is painted on something else, it could be older and framed at a later date as others suggested

No, this is not particle board , this is old thick cardboard. I saw a very similar one in the paintings of the first quarter of the 20th century and earlier.
