I sure missed everyone here while I traveled to Indochina. I got back three weeks ago but had a pile of things to do before coming here to enjoy myself.

I have questions about this box of writing instruments and am hoping to hear what you think. The box is wood with a metal button snap closure. It is 9 1/4 inches long, 2 inches wide and 1 1/4 inches tall.

The box has three compartments. I get the feeling that the items inside were used and then put away and forgotten. The top has a scene and is slightly curved. There is a label on the bottom with "95" and the rest is indecipherable to me.

    The items inside include:
    1. An Eversharp Mechanical Pencil - Silver Plate
    2. A handmade, well-used, wood ruler
    3. A lavender dip pen with a mark
    4. A dip pen that was made to look like bamboo
    5. A black dip pen
    6. A hook of unknown purpose?
    7. Several nibs with one that is marked in French
Please if any one has a lead or ideas especially about age, I would very much appreciate it.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Hook looks like maybe could be an old shoe button hook.............

I was thinking that but what would it be doing in this box?

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

it's a school box, the hook for getting in or out of school uniform fast....so the hook was placed in an easy to find receptacle .....

HAHAHA!! I TRY to keep like things together, but THAT doesn't always happen!! OTOH, maybe someone found a special purpose for it in among the pens!!! Sometimes there is no apparent rhyme or reason!!!:smuggrin:

I hadn't thought about a hook for school uniforms. I wore uniforms but they all had buttons. Maybe your experience was different.

It could be from an assortment of things in a drawer that they put together in order to donate it. I was thinking lacing on a book or journal cover. I have a silver boot hook and it is very like.

Hmmm. I have looked into men's pockets with amazement, especially what they think should go into washing machines.

I pick up boxes of old pens etc when I see them.
There are collectors of propelling pencils although the Eversharp silver plated ones don’t seem to go for a lot but worth researching the model.
There are avid dip pen collectors too so it’s worth looking twice at it to see if it’s a desirable type.
I think the dip pen says Faber.

I didn't know that. Thank you very much. I didn't know people collected dip pens. I'll have to do some research. I looked for the Eversharp pen and that wasn't worth much itself. It was black when I bought it, so it took time just to uncover some of the details. Thank you very much.

Glad to see you back, Kiko. Hope your trip was wonderful. :)

Being a bicycle rider, I'm a big fan of the box! What a cool piece.

Thanks for the welcome home. The box is what interested me. Te things inside were a bonus. I thought of them as clues.
