Featured German Gründerzeit commode

Hi, just want to share my last project with you guys.

I bought this furniture in very bad condition for 10 Euros.

First I thought what are you doing here is it worth to have so much work to restore it but when I removed the black paint I was happy that I bought this one.

It is a German Gründerzeit furniture from about 1890 and now in a good condition again but look at the pictures to compare.

First I wanted to sell it but now its part of our living room.

Welcome mannie. You did a great job on that piece. Glad you saved it from the dreaded black paint. My father in law got on that kick. He gave me several pieces that I promptly stripped. Later he wished he could have them back!

Nicely done. Such beautiful wood to be hidden under black paint.

 

Now who in their right mind would look at that piece and think "Hum. It'd look so much better covered in black glossy paint."?

Whatever people like but for me it looks better now aswell.

Fantastic job,Manni ! I once moved into an apartment where someone had left a French wardrobe painted red. I stripped it (not a good idea in a small apt!) and it was cherry wood ( I think,it was 40 years ago) . Long story short,when I moved I sold it,and I was stunned when the guy who bought it came in and broke it down to carry it out ! I had no idea it came apart. Welcome aboard Antiquers .
