Popular souvenir from Italy, brass & glass. Does it close just by a hook & eye type fastener or is there another type of clasp? Not a high quality piece, although looks in very good condition. Hard to date since the same styles keep being made. I have the sense it is from 50s, for no good reason I can verbalize. Others will have more to say.

@Bronwen , what is this technique of the bits stuck into composition called?

As said in the title, micro mosaic sometimes spelled micromosaic:joyful:

Just arrived on the scene & find kyra has already said it. The tiny tiles (tesserae) are not nearly so tiny as the ones used for the best antique ones, which are like stone pointillism & look like painting until you get very close.

For some reason, the tag from antidiem is not in my alerts.

I agree with Bronwen, probably 1950s, maybe a bit later. I had one as a little girl, bought in 1962.

Although commonly called micromosaic, the term was originally used for artistically made images using much smaller tesserae. Items with his size tesserae were simply called mosaic.
    The original micromosaic:

I'm sorry not to have been more precise - I wonder what type of composition material and what technique used (firing?), despite the size of the glass bits being small or micro. I ask because I saw a bracelet with much larger bits and the same type of "epoxy" or whatever the glue composition is made of? <<That's what I'm asking. It looks kind of "blackish" in OP's photos.

By contrast, I see NO blackish glue stuff in the photo @bluumz posted!

Here is something I saw online, wonder what the back blackish epoxy stuff is, even though not "micro" glass particles? What would this be called? Is this similar? What are the micro particles (and these) stuck in with?

Definitely can't be anything that dries quickly. @Hollyblue is our expert on jewellery making techniques, although this may be outside her realm.

The bracelet looks Asian, they work with all sorts of natural resin mixes. I have no idea how Italian mosaics are stuck together, but I suspect they use a different material than they use for micro-mosaics. I have never seen that dark stuff on the micros.

Ok, but wait, I thought THAT dark stuff was what I was looking at in OP's first pictures of the bracelet..?

Or is that just shadows or dirt?

THAT darkness is what led me to ask. :bucktooth:

    True, but I don't call that micro-mosaic, just mosaic. I'm an old-fashioned gal.:playful:
So I have never seen it on the Italian micro-mosaics, just on the Italian mosaics.:)

Mastic is the word I was searching for, although surprised to see it is now considered something medicinal, not just a kind of adhesive.
