Google image search was no help on this one. Anyone know it or what specifically it may represent? I’d hazard its a British military procession, maybe celebrating victory in battle?
The picture is too small to see enough detail to say who they are, but the colors don't look British to me.
Bearskin hats are worn by them military in: Australia Belgium Canada Denmark Italy Kenya Netherlands Spain Sri Lanka Sweden UK US Uruguay Debora
Could possibly be Spanish, judging by yellow tunic and red plume of first two horsemen. If someone could enlarge street sign in middle top of picture would be a definite help.
There’s not enough detail in the framed print to tell anything let alone my photo enlarged unfortunately. Spain did cross my mind as well based on colors but I didn’t know they wore the bearskin hats until Debs post.
Odd scene what with the double-tier viewing stands constructed against buildings. Doesn't look particular Spanish to my eye. Anything on the back? Debora
The first and second lines of horsemen in the picture are Spanish Dragoons 1803 -1814.During that period there two different colour tunics used. 1st ( yellow coat red brestplate and red plume in hat) and the saddle pad/ rug was yellow with a white rim.almost unique at that time, 2nd (red coat yellow brestplate and red plume) and ( saddle pad/ rug blue with yellow rim).Added to the flag colours (yellow /white/red) which also suggest a Spanish location, and the defeat of Naploeon after the Peninsular war in 1813 would undoubtably have been the reason for such a procession or victory celebration.Maybe contacting Spanish Military Museum with a photo might garner more information.
I thought the stands were interesting as well. Nada on back of frame. I didn’t feel like taking it out of the frame if I didn’t have to. .
