Hi antique experts and friends! This is a little out there but I thought I'd just ask for piece of mind. I have a wealthy gentleman coming over tomorrow to my place to look at some pieces I have. He's interested in 2 paintings, bronze sculptures, lamps, and old chairs possibly more. I sold him something out of my fathers collection (who passsed) and came to find out he owns a very popular antique hotel and is opening a new one and is restoring and furnishings currently. I just was hoping to get a rough estimate on the total price of this lots value and what I should be in the ballpark of asking for everything together based on your opinions after seeing some of the things. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Of course I wish I could just ask my father but I'll ask his type of people instead! This forum has always been so good to me and helpful and I truly appreciate it! Thanks!

The Diana of Versaillles bronze seems to be a free interpretation rather than a copy. Does it have any info on it re: artist or foundry?

    sorry , I can't be of help.:(

a little more lead time to suss things out.....but..:sorry:

    that said...........

    it scummy but...

get him to make offers first.

unless you have some reasonable thoughts on what you want for each item....let him open up the discussion.

He knows what he'll pay......and likely he'll start low.....but then you have a starting point !!
You want him to buy....and he's ready......no dispute there.... but if you are clueless, he'll at least get the ball rolling.

If he askes you what you want for it..... that's reasonable, but he's baiting you.

You come in way over what he feels the item is worth...and he'll balk.
You come in way under what he's willing to pay...... he'll pounce.

I know not how good your bargaining skills are.... but there's a game to be played here......... he knows it......and now hopefully so do you !

If you get comfortable with him..........then there's bundling !

He'll want a better price if he can put several items together as a bundle , in which case you'll need to be flexible......but don't drop your pants !!;)

    Good luck !!

I noticed that too. I think she's made much prettier in mine but I couldn't find an artist!

    Thanks!

Do you live close to Skinner's or a similar auction house? I would take the paintings and sculptures to them for estimates. If that is a Black Forest carved wild boar, they sell for good money. A similar slag scenic lamp sold at Skinner's for almost $500. I love your marble-top buffet!

He may own an antique hotel, and a new one, but sounds to me he's just a picker for his own personal collection that can be used as a tax write off for his businesses.

I'd ask $1000 for the table lamp, $1200 for the standing lamp, $850 for the boar, and $5000 for the marble top buffet. Now, you can ask whatever you want, but please be aware that if you "let him set his own prices" you shall be scrud bluuue!

Honestly, any picker would LOVE to go and LOOK at antiques that haven't had time to be properly researched. Do your research, set your prices high. Unless you are destitute and so in need of financial assistance that you must take whatever you can get. In that case, I want to come and visit you to look at your antiques! ;)

I think your huntress is a newer cast bronze, perhaps from the 1990s.
NO WAY TO KNOW, YOU HAVE NOT SHOWN DETAILED photographs, nothing of the bottoms, we have no actual way to accurately help you without these.

Not enough information to go on in regards to some of the items..... Particularly the paintings. Keep in mind that this is a wholesale buying situation for him. I would guess he is expecting prices at 1/3 to 1/2 what retail would be. For example, the slag glass table lamp in top condition might be worth $1000 to the right person, however, they more likely sell in the $750 range. Unfortunately, it is not in top condition so a wholesale value might be as low as $250.

Here is a lamp with the same shade, in better condition, that sold for $325.

From a look at the frame, the painting above your mantle may be a chinese factory painting. The frame looks new.

My advice: Come down with measles, delay your meeting with the antiques gentleman, and FIND AN HONEST APPRAISER!

Brad, where do you see damage to the table lamp? On the bottom of the shade seam? Is it not supposed to be separated like that? I missed all damage on it. I never consider a re-wiring to do anything but elevate the value, although in this case it won't bring up the value, but I don't consider that to be "damage" per se.

    YES BEST ADVICE YET!! :)

Didn't necessarily say damaged. The separation in the fit of the shade panels may or may not be concerning. What I am seeing primarily is loss of patina to the base and old poor wiring. Not horrible condition but definitely not top retail condition.

It is a common slang where I live. I just spelled it differently :)
Thank you for the definition. :)

I think you're right about the buffet, Johnny. I didn't even think to mention marking anything UP so that seller would have "wiggle room" lol.
