I got this necklace thinking it might be sterling (I couldn't read the markings on the spot).. at home I realized that the chain is 10k gold (marked and tested) and the beads don't test as sterling at all (one is really beat up:meh:) .. isn't it strange to you put "no so good" beads on a gold chain ? Thank you !

the clasp is only Golf Filled...so ya , it looks like a home made throw together of different items.....
toss the beads , keep the chain....it was likely a bargain..

Is the "gold" chipping off the bead?
    What's the gold hiding?
I have found some really nice beads on occasion, hidden under colors.

I think it's some sort of metal (non magnetic).. and they are not light either..

Unless you can find a mark on the chain itself or have it tested, you really can't know what the metal is. Agree with komo. This has been cobbled together by an amateur. The lobster claw clasp is 14K GF. The link holding the ring the clasp hooks onto is marked Italy & 10K. Neither of these guarantees anything about the chain. The jump rings have been soldered closed, but lumpily.

Apart from the holes drilled through them, are the beads solid or hollow? There was a fad in the early 1970s for necklaces of gold beads, either graduated or all one size. They were strung on braided wire, maybe some were on chain, because the beads would have sawed through cord. This looks like an attempt to make something that looks like that, with lower quality components.

& the one soldered on to the box chain is ..... is wrong and poorly done....
I've also never seen a box chain used in this way...

The chain tests as 10k.. the beads are solid, the necklace weighs 72 grams.. what I don't understand is why use a 10k chain for cheap beads.. ?? It seems strange to me..

Someone seems to have put this together with parts on hand. Have you formed some idea of what the beads are made of? What seems to be under the gold coating?
