Bought a Really Pretty Rug Runner and Wondering...

I picked this rug up at an estate sale the other day. I liked the colors and needed something for my hallway, but now I am wondering if it is hand knotted, Persian, etc.? I've been reading and researching and examining it, but I'm pretty sure I don't know what I'm looking at, LOL! Not my area of expertise.

It has some damage and I don't want to take it to a rug place and find out that it probably isn't the kind of rug that it worth the cost of repair.

Anyone know about rugs?
BTW, it is just under 11ft long and 33" wide.
In person, the colors are rich.
Photos that show streaks of fading are not true fades, but lighting and shadows and my poor camera skills.

Looks like a nice rug for a long hallway. I remember when I was living in the DuPont estate. The hallways had three different oriental rugs in the hallway on top of one another. It was sooooooooooooooooo quiet and comfortable. Damn it must have been nice being rich.

Not a bad rug. Not great either, but appears to be handknotted and not in rough shape at all. Where is the damage you mentioned?

It is an easy fix to keep from spreading. It is a little more work to repair.

This hole, about the size of a quarter, is close to the end where the edge unraveled.

 

Perhaps you should sew the loose threads up to stop the fraying even if and when you get it cleaned. When you use it maybe that could be covered by some item.

 

I was looking at some online stuff about repairing. I may just be content to stop the damage. I suspect that a repair would be pricey and I do recognize that the rug isn't high end, just pretty. I do think I got my $25.00 worth

Can you suspend it on a line and at least shake it out carefully?
Dirt chews at it when walked on.

 

Where I want to use it, it will mostly hide the issue.

Yes, to the easy repair. I have several with that damage and it does keep it from getting worse.

Ah, I see now. Definitely worth your $25! You might want to send pictures to your local rug store and see if they can estimate from them. With so little wear elsewhere, it could be something you use for decades.
