I'd like to say hello to everyone here. I work (seasonally) at a state park that has a historic hotel (The Summit House at Skinner State Park in Hadley, MA), so I'm hoping that this will be a good resource for doing research on both things we currently have there and things we might have had.

    Welcome, Matt! :)

There are quite a few of us from Mass here. I didn't know any of our state parks had a hotel... sounds very interesting.

Hi, Matt. How's the view up there? Still spectacular? Some of my ancestors were from Hadley. Farmers in the early 1800s. We took a trip up Mt. Holyoke quite a while ago, and had a birds-eye view of maybe what was once family farmland. I googled and see that The Summit hotel has been completely renovated. Good news. But it's like a museum now? Skinner State Park - after the King of silk? I look forward to seeing you again.

The view is still spectacular, on a clear day we can see about 60 miles. Lots of farmland in the area in the 19th century, the view would have been completely different from what it is today. The Summit House acts as a museum and visitor center now, but we are working on getting funding to redo the interpretive materials. The Skinner the park is named for is Joseph Skinner, a younger son of the family.
