I know nothing about them other than that they are super cool. Prices vary greatly. The more ornate looking ones seem to do better, I guess that’s a little obvious. See any that pop out at you? There’s one that’s actually the least ornate that catches my eye for some reason it’s the one with the plain metal handle. There’s also a photo of one with a white tip on handle that I liked.

Then there’s what I assume is s mace. Can anyone tell me anything about it by looking at it? Is it not a mace? Ottoman Empire?

Any insight appreciated as I doubt I’ll be able to stand not buying at least one if there are any left when I mosey over. 6DCEDE79-287D-479C-B7E9-0493EA8C0A67.jpeg C98755D4-1393-48A3-A502-15156B047B78.jpeg

Before anyone tags me;) the keris etc are all Filipino Moro, not my area of interest or knowledge. Most look like they need tlc.
Not a mace, not Ottoman empire.:playful:
It is a small lantaka/rentaka, a ship's canon used in Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philipines. The two knobs on the sides serve to rest in a swivelling support, so it can be turned in the direction of the enemy ship.
I suspect this one is from the Philippines, just like the keris.
@springfld.arsenal will probably know if it is a replica or the real deal.

You’re he best! That’s what I get for looking at photos and posting at 4am. It’s clearly a small cannon. After looking at swords, spears, and bows and arrows, I guess my overly tired mind just wanted to see a mace lol. Thanks for identifying origin! Since I’ve been to The Philippines it’s all the more reason to buy swords in rough condition I don’t need!!! The cannon I’ll look at closer.

Kampilan, kris, Barong...looks like some nice steel there.....
for the most part....from what I see....they all look authentic...as carried weapons.
I'd snag the flat leaf barong in the last pic at the left....cuz I've always wanted one...with a nice sheath...but I'd want to inspect the steel on the others first before snapping them all up......at the right prices...

these are all available on line at several decent weapons dealers so getting a handle..( no pun intended) on some retail prices should be easy.

Great thanks, I noticed some of that more basic looking design sold at good prices. I checked the eBay sold listings. I’ll check other sites quickly on the way there. Prices are just all over as with most things so I’ll just be taking a stab (no pun) in the dark. Not sure I would know the difference between a $50 piece and $500 but my judgement is usually pretty good once I can get eyes on stuff.

You both seem to have the cutting edge information.

They're all begging for a good coat of whatever oil the experts recommend. I'd be after a kris ... then it could be Ruth's kris. I'm not sure I'd cut a steak with it though.

I was wondering about that. It looks like a Dayak sword but that inlay looked Filipino to me. Maybe a Sulu influence?

They all look Filipino to me . The "Moro" stores in downtown Davao all sell these , and a few "Antique shops" in Manila / Cebu. When I first went there in 2002 you could still find "real" ones , not "Made to look old w/ 1898 American coins (fake?)" now, not so many . There was an antique store in the upper floors of SM Mega Mall in Mandaluyong that still had what I would call "Real" ones in 2017 ? , last time I was there . I am not an expert. Some look like a mixture of new and old , possibly old blade , new handle and scabbard . Some look very authentic . The price is always crazy high in the Philippines at a "tourist" shop or "Antique Shop" . My prize find was a "Panabas" bought here in California that was listed at auction as a "ethnic Machete".....lol...it is very authentic right down to the woven "decorations / hand guard ?" and Betal nut lime rubbed into the little dots on the handles , probably an American soldier bring back from the Philippine American War period 1899 -1902 . Thats a nice collection either way , I would be ecstatic to find that at a garage sale in California..... 384e8eecff2030037cf20b75752ec27e.jpg

By The way , there are still many "Blacksmiths" like the one in Toril west of Davao who employ quite a few employees and have hand forges and 3 guys , one to hold and two to pound and they make the most awesome Barongs and other "Farm Tools" , made from old truck leaf springs .I brought one home and polished it out and did file work and cleaned up the handle and it is pretty . Getting things through "customs" on the Filipino side at the Airport in Manila is a joke and a pain, even in the check in boxes or luggage , they don't know an antique from a new one , sometimes will require you to have a "certified receipt" saying it is not an antiquity , probably just want a "pay off" , you never know what you will encounter .... if I ever find another I have to bring home I will probably "mail it" to myself via LBC or DHL or be prepared to get a "Certified receipt" or pay "Payola" .... one just never knows what one will encounter in the Philippines , it takes a lot of cheek biting and eye rolling at the wife .

I may have jumped to a conclusion. Given all of the others, it is more likely Filipino.

Great info and stories, thanks for the rich reply. The lady I was with didn’t let me do any exploring of shops and hunting while we were there. We had to stick to the tourist script her and her sister had arranged. Hope to go back someday, it was awesome! The guy who owned the collections father lived there back in the day. I assume this guy was an old man so we could be talking 100 years ago. I guess people used to drive around with trucks full of antiques there and you could buy the stuff for peanuts. Lots of very old stuff at this sale but most was gone by the time I got there. Almost brought home a bundle of spears and arrows but ended up putting them back as I’m trying to be more disciplined in my purchases. Now I’m of course wishing I had got them.

Ugh soooooo sad!!! All swords gone by the time I got there :(((. Cannon gone too (went for $500 btw). I did pick a few things up but not what I went for. Got a nice little .800 gold bezel from Portugal (I believe) with a Crystal in it. Necklace from Guatemala with late 19th century silver coins and red beads that are possibly coral, some supposedly precolumbian relics, little heads and some other little pieces I haven’t looked at yet, kind of interesting bronze pitcher, bag of random old textiles and little bronze artifacts I haven’t looked at, big chunky old bracelet I have no idea where from, some vintage postcards, and a little modern sterling. I’ll probably need some assistance with the “precolumbian” stuff, bracelet, and the pitcher maybe. Pitcher is marked on the bottom but the mark is super dull, at least before wiping off all the dust it is.
