Featured Glass negatives 3D mountain climbers

These mountainclimbers took with them a 3D camera that used glass negatives.

dating at least 1904 due to box stating 1904

I've got the negatives that would be used to make stereo prints from

 

Very cool.

Hard to look too closely though with the flickering.

 

I'm betting they're good negs. Those old ones were often incredibly sharp.

 

The flicker does make my astigmatism go a little nuts.

 

For those who can't handle the 3D gif:

 

Their condition is poor to decent. Both in physical condition and in exposure.

Some would not be very good to print with, thankfully with the magic of today's scanners I can squeeze out every drop of detail and digitally enhance it.

Any names/documentation associated with the slides?

 

I believe there is some french handwriting (ink pencil) on the box but I can't read french.

I showed this to my husband because he does high altitude mountaineering on the highest mountains in the himalayas. He thought it was awesome. He said he would freeze to death in those antique mountain climbing clothes and gear. Nice pic. Any more photos.

 

Those are the French Alps, most likely. Could be Swiss too of course, or German/Austrian/Slovenian but they're French photos.

 

it's clearly summer. and if it's in the area I suspect - around Montblanc - you get comfy temperatures of up to 15 to 18 ° in the sun up to 3000 metres altitude.
