This is something we should all take into account. The Bots are actively posting this Forum to Google.
I think we need to be most aware of the Titles of our threads.
I did a fast experiment, I put the name only on Google search, and did not find Antiquers thread in a quick search.
I then copied and pasted the thread Title, and Antiques post was naturally the first to appear.
I think that is the difference, in the this post, and a previously discovered problematic post.
I don’t know much about the “behavior of the Bots”, but I think carefully worded titles, might help. Opinions are Welcomed. :)

As in using someone's name in the title? What if your asking for info on a artist/guessing a artist's name (like I do a lot!)?
I do understand about using her full name in this type of discussion that the bots could pick up.

I think it might also help against disappointments. I don't mean your threads, journey.
But there are so many threads with 'antique' for 20 years old, 'rare' for mass produced ("but I couldn't find it in a google search"), 'carved' for molded resin, the list is endless.

Some people use the title "Help with signature painting", and they get all the help we can give them. Sometimes page after page, sometimes hardly anything if the siggy is illegible.

Maybe someone will offer an informed opinion, maybe someone with more computer sense than I. @Jivvy ?
I think if you ask the name in the post rather than the title, it may help.

I think we do what we do.....
It is not up to us to censor our comments in a way that could interfere with our ability to glean information ...... on the outside chance that a 3rd party may find such comments unwarranted or unfair.

An artist found us online ...as a result of the bots.....joined up ...and voiced her opinion in opposition to things that were said here....
    I think that....in itself ...was fantastic !!
We learned more...she learned more....every one benefits !!

She seemed mostly upset, which is generally not the best frame of mind to learn. Even though no one had accused her of plagiarism, she took it personal. She must have been having a hard time, with her own work being plagiarised.

I can certainly understand your point. It would be foolish to to think we could combat the linking of out threads to being harvested and misinterpreted on the Web. Just trying to figure out what anyone who wishes to not have this happen, might do. :)

    Definitely.

In my part of the world (google servers don't all update at once), the old (now deleted) thread still shows up in the top 10 results for her name.

But it's an error page and, eventually, will completely drop out of google.

Really, probably a good and decent-human-being idea to use some care when associating any artist with dicey art-world practices.

(Except Thomas Kinkade. He's my "proves the rule" exception. :joyful:)

Are you kidding me? Do you want potential customers to end up on a page where people are talking in a manner that makes it look like you're a cheat?

When the only thing you did was have the same last name as a cheat?

    I'd have been livid.

It was not the intention of anyone in that thread, to infer she was a cheat. It was all wondering and questioning. It’s ultimately the fault of the Bots. We ourselves, in researching, have come across misinformation. Anyway, that’s my analysis of why it may have happened, and anyone who wants to use that a guilde line is free to use that suggestion or not. :)

Well. It may not have been anyone's intention, but that is how the thread read.

And please understand, I'm not saying I'm above implying such. I had a real "phew!" moment when I read back over that thread and saw I hadn't commented.

I think your suggestion about titles is an excellent one.

And I think I will be typing my words more carefully when talking about the living, working, artists.

Agreed, I didn’t think YOU were saying that. :p I understand an artist being frustrated. I think we all seem to agree it is something that is happening. Thank you to everyone for their opinions, the more feedback helps us all to at least understand things from a different point of view. :)

    Indeed.

I didn't see anything on that thread which made her look like a cheat. Journey just wondered if it was this particular painter, but someone said early on that it didn't look like her work. And others agreed, if I remember correctly.
When we commented on the painter plagiarising someone else's work, it was already clear that it wasn't this particular lady's work.

I do think some issues can be avoided by not mentioning the name of a contemporary artist in the title.

While we can agree on the lack of ill intent of the posters, we are not going to agree on the tone of the thread and how it read.
