And here's the newest Schmoll. She has been salvaged by breaking away the background shell.

Thanks, you two. There is a slight bump in the shell so it's a bit convex under the roses, giving a greater sense of depth. Having bid on the cameo in the first photo, was very pleased to receive the one shown second. :)

Merci, Madame. It's really some of his better work; too bad it fractured. Someone did a good job at chipping out the figure. There were little patches of a red waxy substance in a couple of places. Wonder if someone tried to affix the cameo to a backing. It is quite curved, so difficult to get it to stay on a flat surface. It could be set it one of those spidery prong mounts that bluumz showed us.

'Cameo Corner' is rather famous, if any shop specializing in cameos can be 'famous' exactly. I keep a file of cameos with dates so I can compare styles over time, engraved on the mount or the cameo itself. This was already somewhere between vintage & antique when it was sold in 1944. On her site Giovanna says it has 'Europa' beneath the signature. I think it says 'Roma' but no doubt the scene is Europa. One for @Jivvy to squint at. I have not seen another with anything after 'Carnesecchi' & looks put there by his hand. I'm stuck seeing it as 'Mignon'.

Pierluigi Carnesecchi has been researching the Carnesecchi name. He had some cameo & plaster impression info on his main site, then spun off a separate one just for Francesco:

Scroll down for the cameos we have 'collected' so far.

It is, haven't seen one quite like it. Would have been better to mount it the other way up so that gravity would work with the mechanism to help make sure the latch stays closed. Can see it becoming unreliable with wear & needing a jeweller to correct. The figure 8 safety catches on some modern bracelets work on the same principle & can get loose, but design allows them to be squeezed back into a tighter shape.

A propos of absolutely nothing, just got a bogus registration on my web site from some spammer using an e-mail address for steve.bannon.

Jivvy the research is my favorite

hah, no, we've already done this one.

Or we did the word below, not the one after.

BELOW: If I recall correctly, I gave you a read that was incorrect, but had a number of correct letters and you said, "incisore" -- which I believe is correct.

    AFTER: first, more coffee.

Size info not given -- and most other information not given. Being sold from Japan, so maybe that's part of the reason? I like that they showed the one fabric flaw in close-up.

It is pretty nice looking, though!

That was my thought too, until I saw the price. :( I do have a pair of socks someone gave me that have a plastic cameo on the cuff.

Unless it's actually a child's size, I could probably get into it, but it's too young for me. (I, of course, am not too old for it.)

You would think that even in Japan size matters. When people put up listings using a phone, they tend to skimp on detail. Could also be seller has no idea of size in any western system.

Yes, possibly. I also wondered whether their language skills might not be the best in English? But I think you are right about people using their phones and just skipping out on adding much text.

    Good Afternoon/Morning,

I’d like to ask if any of you can make out what this says. It’s on the back frame of a cameo. C99E6A96-8689-473B-BB2D-C2D05BA60E2A.jpeg I’ve tried zooming it in but I can’t discern much of it. C7B76ED7-9808-42E3-8746-1BCBD96FBE6B.jpeg
And if your curious for the front: 14298460-A978-4BA8-A0C8-4C37587F72FA.jpeg
Nothing super fancy, but I rather liked the look of her face and bow.
