Hello, I stumbled upon this forum recently and am really enjoying reading up on everyone's finds  I'm hoping I can get some answers on some of the things I've bought over the years.

First up, can anyone shed some light on this costume ring? I bought it on eBay years ago, it's definitely some sort of base metal, with some red and white stones (plastic? glass?). It's definitely seen better days. It's stumped me for a while and I have no idea on its age, is it very old or just relatively recent made to look old? It has a hallmark that's quite worn but looks like W.B - and I can't make out the marks that come before this. Anyone have any ideas?

An oldie! Costume as you said, to mimic gold and gemstones Victorian jewellery, absolutely of same era for me.

    Welcome to the board!:)

Think what now just look like white stones were originally faux pearls; they have lost the coating that made them look pearly.

It has some history then! Thank you everyone this is all really helpful :shame: I’ve not come across much costume jewellery before that would be this old.

I assume so, not sure about the faux pearls but the red stone looks paste to me (although I’m no expert!).

Ahhh I hadn’t considered it might be an ‘E’ not a ‘B’. Thank you, I’ll do some more digging!

If they’re plastic, not Victorian in date, obvs. They’d be glass ones.

Costume jewellery with history is just wonderful. Modern stuff mostly leaves me cold but I love things like this ring.

I’ve a couple of brass rings, paste set. I’ve also seen brass wedding bands. I’d suspect for those who couldn’t afford the real thing.
