Oil painting- Please help me find artist

Does anybody know who is the artist of this oil painting?Or maybe where i the location ? There is no signature.

Finally made it! I couldn't take a photo of the back because the painting is very big and hangs on a wall.. Any idea about the artist, period or anything? Thanks!

European church, it seems.
Where are you/from where did you get it? This may narrow the search field

 

This painting was from my grandmother who was a nurse in WW2 in Italy- Friuli, she said that she got it as a gift, after the war. But she doesn't know about the origin of the painting. It is a mystery where it is from or who painted it.

 

could well be along one of the many arms of the Tagliamento. although - the countrside cetainly changed considerably with all the floodings.

 

Anything on the back? Labels? Stickers? Hand written notations?

Hi @Debora, here is a photo of the back. Nothing written, but it seems that there was a sticker once on the top left corner.

 

The combination of the Gothic style of the church, the shape of the church tower, and the style of the houses makes me think France. Northern half rather than southern half.
Art travels, and this one could easily have made its way to Friuli with a former owner or through trade.

The female figure on the river bank appears to be wearing regional dress. A close-up photograph would be helpful.

Well spotted. Right now I think I see a red skirt, black bodice, white hat or bonnet. Which was worn in many, if not most, parts of Europe. Let's hope there is more detail, especially in the headdress.

 

Looks as if it was owned by a heavy smoker or the artist's palette was limited to shades of yellow.

A good clean would help it.
