Black & white landscape sketches

First one is pen & ink by someone named M. Howe. Neat writing, so it's probably a woman.

 

Second one is a print, #4/10. Artist is J. Richardson and it's dated 4/26/68. Title is "Landscape, Beaver Country"

 

"...probably a woman." Really?

 

So far, all the scrawled artist signatures have been men, but I'll take your indignation into account.

 

Ok, so I have to go do errands so I'll post part two of this. I really didn't want anyone wasting their time looking for these names. The framed pictures are from the house of a family that I knew. Here are photos of the back. Student art. Pretty good student art, but student nevertheless.

OK, here are the trick answers.

The Syracuse student is left handed, used too much ink, and flunked out after failing to sell all ten prints.

His classmate, the competent and intelligent Ms. Howe went on to become a successful illustrator.
She either refused to date “him” or eventually divorced him.

Oooooooohhhh, Bev you got me! I started Googling the names right away before scrolling! Thank you! Hopefully this is the last lesson I'll need in reading replies before I go off on a goose-chase!

 

I guess I was making a point that a lot of folks find pieces like this and really think they've found a famous artist's work when it's merely a student. Believe me, most art students end up being accountants or used car salesmen. (joke!) Actually, I became an office manager with stolen moments here and there for my art.
