I stumbled across this identical dish at a local thrift store today. It certainly took my eye! It just screams "color"! I was able to find out that it is "Silverina"... and I found this Worthpoint link... but I don't have a subscription. Can anyone look up the price for me? Thanks in advance. https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/silverina-teal-blue-glass-genuine-1738781573 Apparently, it isn't old. Thanks again, Leslie
I dont get that at all. That is so Home Goods . Not that it isnt pretty but I remember those .Of course the way my memory works that could have been 15 years ago.
it is Home Goods but it may be 20 years ago - and people buy what they are familiar with... I was watching a tutorial on youtube one day and this long time dealer was talking about the time warp that we are all in - that the largest consumers are those in their 30's - they have finished college and moved on to establish careers - and NEWSFLASH that means they were born in the 90"s (we are old!) and that those consumers want the stuff in their era - not the antiques that we are trying to peddle or admire - thus if you don't have items in the 90's and even early 2000's then you are missing a significant customer base doh! I don't even know what circa 1990's looks like - as they say I have socks and underwear that old :O) just food for thought.... or a rant - you choose >g<
I met a young woman if the grocery the other day. She was admiring my boots. "Why thank you, said I. They are about 45 years old." The look she gave me from her (late teen) face was indescribable. (They Are nice boots!)
I started selling "vintage" on eBay in 1999 and was telling a coworker at the time about how well I was doing with it. He couldn't believe it! I told him that once people reach a certain age/income, they like to buy back their childhood... for better or worse. As a matter of fact, last week I bought a set of 12 dinner knives on eBay because they're just like what I grew up with!
My father worked for Mobil oil for 30 years. When they nationalized the oil companies in Venezuela Mobil allowed managers to take home all the signage so we have a full size Pegasus flying red horse on our barn( our farm is named Pegasus) The UPS man stopped me the other day, " May I ask the significance of the big red horse on your barn?" He is 40 years old never saw it before in his life! That's scary. i am getting old.
One of my past dwellings had several barns on the property. One of them had a big red Pegasus airily trying to fly off the roof. We knew he was Pegasus, but he was always called Trot Dobbin by us.
I know Pegasus! You'd think with "American Pickers" who have run across Pegasus many times that they'd be familiar with it by now - even if they didn't see it as a gas station... oh well. I love that! You'll have to show us! They _DO_ sound like nice boots! Leslie
I have more than once, while walking in a city park, received a positive comment from an oncoming 20-30 something on my sunglasses, which I would have bought in maybe 1978. Before 1980, at any rate. Embarrassed to admit they are Christian Dior, but in my defense it was the only style in the shop that looked OK on me. Compliments have been given before the admirer was in a position to see the earpieces, where the name is. They seem to sort of freeze for a moment when I say the glasses are 40 years old. But silverbell's boots got me beat.
Ours actually flew in 2006 when the 150 year old barn he was attached to was demolished by a tornado. Local body shop man repaired him.
