    Hi,
I'm making good use of this Metalware category!
I have this pair of wall sconces, thinking brass. Is there a name for this style? Maybe from the 1930s?
    Any ideas appreciated!
    thanks for looking.

They are in a French neoclassical style. Maybe Louis XVI ? 1920s-30s seems about right to me. Those large paddle switches can be pretty early.

Thanks verybrad! I like the big switches, easy to find in the dark.

    Hi,
I love them. I have 5 or 6 hangers with the same ribbon design.

Personally, I think they were originally gas lamp fixtures that were converted to electric.

Notice how small the hole is for the white wiring. Gas piping was narrow.
Also remember in the 1930s, people still cared about good workmanship. that wiring is sloppy and shows through the openwork of the sconce. That would have been unacceptable in the 1930s.
