I'm new to forums so I may not be doing this correctly....

My husband and I bought a home that has a large fountain in a courtyard. It's original to the house, so it's close to 50 years old. It's about 6 feet tall, cast iron and aged (read: rusted). It also has a working pump.

We would like to sell the fountain but aren't sure what our asking price should be. Does anyone have any knowledge of these types of fountains or can someone tell us an approximate value?

    Thanks for your time!

That's a lovely fountain ! The fact its cast iron is a plus. We don't normally do values here, theres just way too many factors such as location, market etc,BUT,that being said I just recently was at an antique store here in N. fla and they had an outdoor section and the prices of cast iron benches, planters ,fountains etc astonished me ! Apparently theres a real market for them. One that large would easily fetch in the high 100s here,if not more.

Ok, thank you! I guess I will call a local antique dealer to see if they could give us a quote.

Now, I'd keep that. It's super. And I'd leave it rusted, too.

    Hi,
I am glad you are in Florida. Metal fountains do not do good in Jersey. I guess the salt air just eats them away. There a loads of cement fountains around but metal ones have to be bought and shipped away. I had a nice iron bird feeder on stand that I bought in Central Jersey 10 years ago. Six years here at the shore and it is almost rusted through. My antique iron lanterns lasted for 150 years up North they are so pitted and rusted away after 6 yrs here.

First off, this is not antique. It is a modern import in an antique style. This, or very similar is available new from China. Here is a page from a Chinese wholesaler with a very similar fountain.

I would find out what a new one costs and offer yours at some fraction of this price. Depending on how desperate you are to sell, maybe even lower than 50%. You also need to take in to account that the basin on yours is really too small and does not match.

Just realized that the basin is not really part of your fountain. Looks like maybe there was a different fountain there at one point that this is the basin for. Here is a page from a different Chinese wholesaler with a fountain more similar to yours.
