Metal Plaque, what unit/force?

This was with a collection of military plaques that were mainly for UK RN ships and shore establishments. They dated from mid to late 20th century.

It appears to be a winged demi-pegasus with fleur de lys to wing. Metal casting possibly aluminium.

Not a Royal Navy plaque, we wondered whether it might have an airborne link?

    Any thoughts welcomed.

You might check out whatever unit captured Pegasus Bridge in the D-Day landings.

I don't believe I knew of this...at least by name so I'll be looking into it later!
    Thanks! :)

The 6th Airborne Division. It has a flying horse badge/emblem.

Peasus is the British Airborne badge, but that one looks like My Little Pony regiment. The Prince of Wales feathers may be significant as well.

So many regiments and units have been amalgamated there are only about 8 soldiers left in the British army. There are certainly more admirals than ships.

    HA!! To all that!!!! :)
These guys are the ones who captured it but that doesn't mean this one is theirs. I suspect it was either a combined group and/or their emblem was redesigned later to include the FDL but....
This isn't supported by the lousy website photos for the museum. :p

I'd ruled out RN due to lack of RN crest. But HMS St Vincent now looks a probable.

EDIT: Thanks AF, I've had this plaque over a year and tried several times to identify. Searching for links to Pegasus bridge after your post and combinations of Pegasus crest brought up the St Vincent image. Though its not a perfect match.

Thanks for the links Springfield, guess its got to be St Vincent. Still puzzled why the usual navy symbol is missing though!

I'd be surprised if it's the Gosport one, given the lack of fouled anchor and so forth. Or any RN one come to that. Might be worth contacting the Gosport or Pompey museums - and both councils have decent archives. (Late father in law worked in the dockyards for decades.)

    Annoyingly familiar, though.

It would make sense that if one of the various UK schools/colleges that went by the name "St. Vincent's" included plaques in their regalia, they may have used a design like that of your plaque.
