This has been in the old homestead attic since at least 1935, likely much earlier. When asked of my living relatives one thought it might be an aunt's husband's and could have accompanied him from England in the late 1800s.
Please forgive the pictures. Taken some years ago and just reopened. It has very minimal crazing. You may notice some very small white spots. Those are under the glaze.
Any ideas of age or origin?
BTW, I've always wondered, because of its almost pristine condition, if someone had "stuffed" it, new, xmasjugwhole.jpg on that attic shelf because they objected to the Merry """"X""" mas. Have since learned that use has been acceptable in Europe since the 1500s. X is the first letter of Christ's name in Greek - Xristos.

There are some who object the the "Xmas". Interesting info you provided about that. Thank you.

They may have tucked it away because it once held a sample of whiskey. That is a whiskey jug shape. Afraid that is all I can offer.

I'll keep trying. I don't take anything for granted unless it is in writing, notarized and with accompanying unaltered pictures.

I asked for help on AGE of this cute little jug after saying it was at least 80 years old.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU AGREE WITH the POSSIBILITY of it being pre-1950. And any other commentaries will also be welcome.

If you're referring to Fairn & Swanson it's quite possible but not traceable.

What piques my curiosity the most is that it looks brand new. And I'm 99% sure it's pre WWII. Maybe just a quality glazing?

Pottery is not one of my collectibles. Has anyone seen something even slightly similar?

I think the X mas is a take off on the old XXX whiskey jugs, so this is nothing more than a novelty item.
    IMHO

Thanks for the comment, komokwa. Some day I may see another one.

Well if it's the only one to have survived over 115 years , then I would think it to be worth a small fortune.
I'd show it to a museum post haste.
