Carved wooden mask identification

Found these decorative masks recently and they have no identifying marks. The backs are not pictured, but are roughly cut and have a single small nail to hang them by. The nails look pretty old.

I'm mostly wondering what the most likely country of origin is? They look more European to me, but could be tribal of some sort. A rough guess at an age would be nice too.

Your masks are from Java, Indonesia. They don't seem to have slits for the eyes, so they could be decorative, not for performances.
Could you show us the backs?

 

Just for future reference, once you upload the photo, click the button "full image" under Insert (image). I think you had to have clicked "thumbnail" and "full image" is the button right next to it.

 

they both look artificially aged.....and beat up...

 

They do look decorative. I like the look, although would be nice if the surfaces were not quite as battered. Still, could look nice hanging in some kind of arrangement with other items.
