That is correct. If you're at all squeamish, don't go looking for the story.

I already knew the story, but not because it's my music. Rather, when you're listening to someone else, you sometimes don't realize the direction of a story until it's too late to stop them. :muted:

Sounds pretty geeky. I vaguely remember.

Without mentioning anything in particular, the seller of this piece, recommends looking at the magnified pictures.

    Something smells off.

(you see what I did there? :p)

Hope lot 567 does well - I urged the current owner to buy it when it was previously auctioned as being by someone named Dawkin. There was no photo of the inscription that time either; it took a while to work out that it is John Nicholson of Dorking. We'll see if anyone else out there is willing to spend some money for the work of an obscure English cameo cutter.

With those fangs, you sure this isn't Ozzie O.? What a bad job with what could have been a pretty piece, even though molded.

She's being sold as lava stone. I couldn't decide if she really is molded or, and I think this may be the case, whatever they coated her with (in an attempt to mask the repair) makes her look molded.

    What is it with that?

I would need to see more than part of a pic to come to any firm conclusion. What is shown here looks molded to me.

It looks to me like it was not re-photographed for this sale. I have the originals saved from when I was researching the piece & see no difference. No photo of back then; no photo of back now. The name NICHOLSON is also engraved at the truncation of the neck and, once again, neither mentioned nor shown. (I know because I have seen it in person. Was hoping it would be the name of the sitter; alas...)

I seem to have lost her -- pretty sure she was on ebay (definitely listed as lava wherever I was), but I just posted her because I could not believe that a seller would have the nerve not to mention the giant hump of clay on her nose. :shifty:

Of course "Nicholson" is one of the people on my master list of "cameo people" -- and it's fun to see pieces by people I've read about (I had seen one other piece of his, but a newspaper photo).

But I really dislike it when they don't show photos of sigs. :punch::rolleyes:

Oh, I had seen the one on trocadero (not the other two). The one I'd seen in the newspaper was a 1981 sale by Christie's.

Lots 587 and 588 were ... interesting. I wouldn't want to have to explain those to my curious (if theoretical) 10 year-old!
