Looks very similar to a german eagle, ezcept the feathers are angled. And that doesnt jive wirh the writing.

I'd say it is a small present from a Gulf State company or ruler to a worker or visitor. It is fairly modern. Quite possibly Italian made.

I was tempted by the e baker and son. But they have an & or dot between the e and b. No such mark on this one. And it seems to be a circle inside of an oval.

And I lean towards it being modern, but the wood inside not pictured here is quite darkened and weathered. Ive spent hours looking at hallmarks today and thought id find a forum to run it by. Thank you for your input folks. Of course the writing and eagle do seem to be lasered in.

Modern in this context is about the last 40 years. If there are no other marks it is not British made. I am pretty sure that eagle appears on one or other of the middle eastern states coins, can't remember which off hand.

Yes Iran has a prominant eagle, but again the feathers are straight, not angled. If i coukd just find a middle easterner to read it.

Iran has a Lion clutching a sword.
Arab national emblems with an Eagle are , Syria, UAE, Egypt & Yemen.
The nearest I can get to yours is the Federal German Republic on a 5 Marks, the German Eagle has many different designs over the years.

Apparently it was the iraqi national coat of arms I was looking at. Not Iranian.

Thank you Cheryl! The picture frame box for $2700.00 is built just the same except with a lot less silver! Looks to be a modified version of the same box though. Hit it on the head.

So Emil's great grandson is now the silversmith there. I wonder if this is pre war with hebrew writing. Made by Emil himself? I have sent more detailed pictures to the company to see what they make of it.

Don't believe Emil Brenk himself made this piece, and would be surprised if his great-grandson is 'the silversmith' now - the company is a good size manufacturer. If wood-lined, this piece is most likely a cigarette box, smoking accessories were a specialty of the company, probably mid 20th century, the eagle is engraved - I can't make anything out of it, but perhaps the writing is someone's illegible signature, looks like it might be acid-etched, but hard to tell...

I magnified the etching and it does appear well, ill post and let you have a closer look. Trying to keep it positive here! At any rate, it was a good score at $30. Ill post close ups of the engraving momentarily.
