I just wanted to share this vase that I found at my local Goodwill. It is a little dinged up and is missing its bottom (the last picture is the bottom), but I think that it is beautiful and a piece of art. I was amazed at the size which is 24” tall.

I only paid $4.23 including tax! They had it priced at $3.99. Maybe because of the damage?

Now what I also found amazing was that I paid $6.35 for a plastic storage tote at the same goodwill. So they value plastic totes more than a beautiful vase like this….

I am still learning, but I wanted to confirm… is this Japanese and would it have been created in the early 1900’s?

I don't know how the measured them. Sorry. They have the same design features as yours, so you know yours is Japanese. I saw a whole range of pieces over long periods of history with the same elements. I can't help you beyond this because I don't know how to date them. I am just a researcher.

Pretty sure Kiko is correct that this was made to be a lamp.

It may have started originally as a vase many moons ago, then that vase was converted to a lamp.

Great price at $3.99. Nice find!

Thank you! I couldn’t believe it when I saw the price and promptly picked it up. :)

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

That would make a very nice lamp again, or you could fit some sort of bottom on it and use it as a vase.
