Electrified oil lamp?

Really interesting unmarked lamp... hand painted Bristol glass and cut glass base. The shade has an etched pattern with an applied green swirl at the top, it appears to be newer than the base, but we’re not sure... ANY ideas/info is greatly appreciated!

Measures approx 18” tall

 

I think the base and top aren't too far apart age-wise, but they didn't start life together. Beyond that... dunno.

 

Who made the lamp (assembled all the parts) I don't know.

This part looks like Smith Brothers.

Did Smith Brothers make complete lamps?

 

I'm not really getting a sense of this as an oil lamp. Could have been electric from the get-go. Might have been gas. What is the black base made of? Stone?

 

Yes, Smith Brothers did make oil lamps. I have one with essentially the same design that is still oil. When I get home I will post a picture or two of it. Base should be cast iron actually.

 

Base is, as Iowa Jayhawk said, cast iron.

I have almost the same lamp, but with a different shade. It's actually a composition lamp. (type of oil lamp) Ours was electrified at one time as well. My shade is different than yours. I have no clue if your shade is original to the bottom, but doesn't look like it. But, it IS an oil lamp. We have several composition oil lamps, and not all had been electrified.
