I have bought this collage a few months back (not because I liked it but because I thought it looked interesting) after that I have googled Zelda W. Werner and lots of links showed up.

    e.g.:

    http://www.invaluable.com/artist/werner-zelda-rgvlzd42pk

    http://www.askart.com/artist/Artist/116635/Artist.aspx

I also looked up John (Jonathan) Putnam and found these two links:

http://bulletin.swarthmore.edu/bulletin-issue-archive/index.html?p=1121.html (He took the picture and as it looks like by some more research, Rosemary Putnam is Zelda W. Werner’s daughter)

    https://books.google.com/books?id=w...rt Putnam" Children "Jonathan Putnam"&f=false

Does anyboby have any thoughts about this collage? What could it represent, etc? Or has anybody access to more details? Info about actions, etc.? Any thoughts are appreciated!

In 1970, civil rights issues and the rights of African Americans were part of a significant movement in the U.S., so my guess is the collage had something to do with that.

    It's a pretty haunting image.

I would highly appreciate any ideas and thoughts!

Thanks Pat P, yes it is and I think it is facinating. Not sure why, but somehow it made me buy it! I guess you're on the right path with your tips, but what could possibly the different pictures within the collage mean or where do they come from?

Not sure about all of the elements, but overall it makes me think of black and white, natural and artificial, free and constrained.
