Help I/D 13 star flag

hello everyone out there I was Hoping some one might recognize this 13 star flag that belongs to my dad it’s 48” long and 2 “ at widest point there is no makers stamp on it if anyone has any info of the use and a age that would be great thanks like always matt. And dad.

 

Is it wool? (Appears to have some moth damage.) Don't know history of grommets but machine-stitching has only been around since the 1850s. Looks much newer.

Hi Matt, Can you read the miniscule print near the top where I've hi-lighted??
Was your Dad in the service & if so, what branch? I'm half thinking if might be for off the fan-tail of a ship, but if I'm wrong, I'm sure others will correct me!!!! Also, are your stars printed on or stitched on???

 

Thanks for the reply Debora it’s cotton maybe not relly sure didn’t think about it just figured it was made what a regular flag is made of but I’m sure flags where made of different Materials just didn’t think of it. Either wool or cotton.
