it really helps us to know what it is...
    where it came from
    how long you've had it
    what the back looks like

at the moment , u know more about this thing than we ever could.....
so, we'd only be guessing here...

    help us...to help you !!!

Sheila, I assume that's the signature on a painting. If so, please post photographs of both the front and back including frame and close-up photographs of any labels, stickers or handwritten notations on the back. Plus the information requested above: Where you got it. What you were told about it. Etc. That will help us help you.

At a glance, it looks like the signature on a decorative painting which is why seeing the entire work including frame is so important.

Quite interesting to see if you can judge a painting by a signature section

I think better, but we shall see

    Confident signature, good brush strokes

Those difficult-to-decipher script signatures are not uncommon to decorative paintings.

Goodness, the photo of the painting didn't load in my first message... sorry... although pleased to have kept some of you busy guessing! It is indeed an oil painting. Can't show the back as don't have it in possession currently. Framing may be helpful but certainly no other written clues or I'd have remembered and been less stumped... maybe! It was a relatives and bought possibly in London and possibly in 60s at a guess, although perhaps later.

A Mediterranean port somewhere. Likely in France like this one. Did they buy it as a souvenir?

Ah, you're right. Think we've seen Nardini paintings here before. Definitely of the "hang and enjoy" school. Some on the internet carry the label of the Jeanmarie Gallery, Inc. in NYC, Paramus, N.J. and Wayne, N.J. All, including those of other "artists", are decorative.
