    hello there,
I recently acquired these beautiful brooches but unfortunately don't know much about the stones or value. I do know that they have been an heirloom with one family and some can be dated to the early 1920's.
If someone can help me identify the stones and place a value on them it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

Welcome to Antiquers, Shendy! Beautiful jewels!

I am not a jewelry person, but one thing I've learned from those here who are is that they like to see the backs. That way they can see how the pin is constructed and how the "stones" are attached - both of which are clues to when they were made.

The only one I recognize is the one that you attached last - silver? with abalone. Does it have any marks?

Oh dear! That makes perfect sense. I will edit and post the backs shortly.
Oddly enough, the one you are speaking of is the only with any type of marking. It's difficult to make out what it is exactly but perhaps you recognize it

It looks like they're all various rhinestones and glass, except this one:
shendy-sterling-abolone-mexican-brooch.jpg which is probably Mexican 925 sterling (look on the back for marks) inlaid with abolone shell.
Did you look on the backs of all these pieces for maker's marks? You might need a magnifying glass or loupe to read the marks.
Some costume jewelry is very collectible and brings good prices.

I can see enough to tell you the picture is upside down. ;)

The only picture I can see is the back of a sterling piece.
And the picture that lauragarnet posted.
Laura is correct, Mexican with abalone.

    Were there other pictures?

I can make out the 925 on it but that's about it. I do not see markings on any of the others

There are 8 more. laura. I don't know why you can't see them.

Shendy - I took the liberty of editing your picture of the silver marks - oriented and blown up so the marks are legible.

    From the left - MEXICO TC-49 925

925 is the decimal for sterling silver. T means it was made by a smith in Taxco, C is the maker's initial, 49 is the smith's number. Because of the mark format, this was made 1979 or more recently.

Unfortunately I don't have a source for the names that go with the numbers.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Very bling-y -- I like them. Don't know anything about value, though.

The pins in the first batch are all after 1955, they use AB stones which weren't invented until then. Most look from the 1960's-70's, maybe later.

Not sure who told you that , but that story seems now to have a few holes in it.

While the Mexican one has no relation to any of the others ....what Calico says places them all well short of heirlooms !

I think I see writing on the back of Jpeg 597...????
