There is a charity shop that I only ever go into if I’ve exhausted my favourite ones and I have time to kill. They screen everything and anything good is WAY overpriced. And they burn very strong incense :vomit:.
They never miss a mark but I think they missed this one!
Maybe saw the Etoile Group as it said ‘signed’ and missed the Baccarat!
@Ownedbybear said to keep an eye out for Baccarat and there it was.
My dilemma is that I can’t find this type anywhere online. Etoile Group is a Kuwaiti perfume and cosmetics company. In existence since 2016 so a very modern piece (sorry nowhere near antique!)
They participate in perfume exhibitions so I wonder if this has come via that route?
    It’s heavy and c 10.5cm tall with a 9cm base.
Prices look pretty high although I have no idea of value as I can’t find any comparable. Would something like this likely be of less value if it’s not part of a Baccarat collection or more value as it could be uncommon. Or they could have given them away in bulk?!
Thankyou for reading through my ramblings :)

Satisfying result when you know the shop experts have missed it.
I found a heavy silver bangle last week, no price on it but when I asked the sales woman went off to the back room to loupe it. Must have seen me looking closely at everything, didn’t buy it, price was £7 rather than the £1-3 on the rail, just felt rather miffed.

This shop loupes everything I want to buy too! Really narks me off :hilarious:.

They do that to me too in some places. If I want it, it must have something good about it. If another person picks up the same item they don't even check.

Find an unmarked item in the ReStore? Anyone else... they just sell it. Me? They take it to the "expert" who marks it sky high. I left a piece of Chinese glass on Tuesday when they tried to charge me three times what it was really worth. It was still there on Thursday, along with an overpriced bud vase made in the same factory. (hand made but SLOPPY. No Italian factory would have let it out the door.)

They wouldn’t bother if they really knew how clueless I am half the time!

Wait, they don't loupe it when you're checking out, do they?

Is your ReStore just a regular thrift or is it like the one we have in town here that only sells new stuff? We have a regular goodwill & salvation army and then a ReStore on the other side of town that only sells new goods (I don't remember if they're affiliated with SA or goodwill).

Here in South Carolina, the ReStore is over on the other side of town so I very seldom go there but they are associated with Habitat for Humanity.

When we bought the lot where we built our house there was actually a house on it but as I have told many people there was no way I would spend even 1 hour living in it.:eek::eek::yuck:

Before we had it torn down we called them & they came out to see what could be salvaged. They ended up taking quite a few things including the HVAC & hot water tank which were fairly new.:happy:

I am assuming the items were either taken to the ReStore location & put up for sale or maybe they took the stuff to one of the local recyclers.

We also got out as much of the metal & other items that could be recycled before the debris was hauled off to the landfill. :)

Yes, if it’s unpriced which half the stuff is. If it’s priced it’s either tat or massively overpriced.
I regard it as a huge achievement when I find something in there that they haven’t spotted :hilarious:
The incense though is enough to make me feel ill and not want to go in there very often.

Incense and such makes me sick to my stomach. I can't go near Lush or Body Shop, too stinky.

I suspect this nice thing was made as a giveaway or promo to clients or staff.

ReStore is Habitat for Humanity. They sell a mix of new and used items, and once in a blue moon do sell jewelry. A lot of the really nice stuff goes straight back out the door to auction or similar; at least the current person doesn't sell it to herself like the previous one did. (and got caught - my guess as to why she's Previous) It's a great place for landlords, rehabbers, and homeowners. They sell new when they can get it, but also take things from senior housing centers and unversities and hotels. Tough institutional furniture that they sell cheap.

My fave & closest Thrift marks their good stuff (vintage & antique) 1/10th-1/4 of what it goes for on Ebay. They check it,know it's good-but still price it to sell. The place is crawling w/ Dealers, and no wonder !
PS-They don't sell their items for 35 cents or a buck anymore, but they still price it to move.
I've got tons of home projects but it's still tough not to go everyday. My Wife walked over to me w/ a pair of linen trousers the other day-$10 for a pair of purple label made in Italy Ralph Lauren.I'm looking at a Levis Trucker Jacket-$35 !...then I see it's a 'Made In USA' Levis Jacket.

I’m definitely going to the dark side more often :hilarious:

    Naughty!
I listen to all the dealers chatting at the weekly antiques fair and with a few exceptions they are a cut-throat back-stabbing community who would sell their granny for her gold teeth :shifty:

I think so too. I will pop it on eBay and let it find its own value.
    Thanks Bear.

You are very kind. However you haven’t seen the pile of mistakes that aren’t what I thought they were :hilarious:.
That’s the way I learn though, buy cheap, I love the research and if turns out to be tat it’s probably still worth what I paid for it.
Fortunately my tat often seems to be someone else’s treasure which is handy though!

    Oh the tat !

It's how I've learned to differentiate whats the good stuff by researching

We'll find something special one day, and if it isn't me, I won't feel bad if it's you

I quite often buy tat to try to research it. Sometimes, it then morphs into not-tat.
