Hi, picked up this bowl at auction for 75$ and was assured it was a reproduction. This individual said it lacked the 'real feel' but I couldn't get anything more objective.
I don't doubt it's a repro but what am I looking for to identify it (and its cousins at later auctions) as a repro? Thanks!

Need to see the base to be sure

My thoughts are of a definite reproduction, but I think you know that anyway

It simply doesn't have the fineness or sharpness of a real one. Nice enough though.

Very pretty even if it is a repro

I've seen several of these and they feel more like glass with a plastic coating than a real glass bowl. Whoever did this reproduction, they made a LOT of them. To me, it's like fake Roseville Pottery. If you've seen even one real piece, the fakes stand out and look harsh.

Besides the overall appearance, the signature is a dead giveaway that this is not authentic. You need to spend some time looking at the real thing closely and in person. Once you have, you will be able to see the difference right away.

Yes, exactly. This is all I needed to see too..

Joe, I'd definitely keep it as a display piece, it's a beautiful vase. I'd not have a problem to put flowers in water in it, or display it in a sunny window with no worries as to future damages. It's good you were told it was a repro before you bought it. :)

One of the first handful of auctions I went to I bought some fake Galle. I thought “how lucky am I that they didn’t get a bid other than mine” turns out there was good reason and I was the noob who didn’t know it. Not that plenty of good lots don’t get more than one bid but that wasn’t one. I did sell them for an ok price even after openly acknowledging their authenticity was to be strongly questioned.

you've always got to consider the age of the pieces, we are talking 100 year old glass

If you use it for flowers with water, pop a plastic bag in first.
