Unusual Turned Wood Coffee Table Patent 1884

This is a new vendor at a local flea market. I typically don't find much MCM or antique furniture. I haven't purchased any of these item, I've only taken photos to research. I assumed the coffee table would be easy to ID given a specific patent date Dec 16th 1884. I've search for a few hours now and still can't find anything. I didn't see the patent mark myself, it might have been on the bottom of the cast iron arm. Could the two legs have been repurposed for the table? I searched the sold listings on liveauctioneers and couldn't believe the amount of coffee tables that sold for 5 figures.

I didn't see any marks on the three chairs. Underneath the chairs was a wood bottom that looked old.

The little fold up table was marked Mahogany on the tag (I don't even know my wood types).

Any thoughts about these pieces age, origin, or makers is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Joe

Love the chairs too ! Id say 30s-40s. That second table looks like oak to me. The 3rd one is very clever,though somewhere a nakashima table (or a knock off) is mourning its top. And those are so expensive to get cut too !

 

You didn't really think that kidney-shaped glass top was original, or that the legs started life as part of a coffee table, did you? The turnings are different, but had to chuckle when I found what I believe is your patent, suspect it will be appealing to certain buyers (kind of like it myself).

Gotta say, I like the idea of a glass top, but that one seems incongruous, believe it would look better with a rectangular top...

Komokwa, if you only "saw" (and didn't have to sit in) those chairs in your doctor's waiting room he either doesn't have many patients or you've been banned from the waiting room and always immediately led to a patient cubbyhole in the back. Just kidding, just kidding.

I'd get a squared off top for those coffin legs, and then market the thing to the Goth crowd. Chances are they'd love it.

 

These chrome chairs crop up frequently. They are similar to those made by Royalchrome but I don't think they are theirs. They were ubiquitous in waiting rooms everywhere. They were particularly prevalent in barber and beauty shops. I still see them from time to time being used as they were for decades.

 

I see the chrome chairs often attributed to Kem Weber design but I don't know it that can be confirmed or not.

 

that cpffee table looks like a 1950s marriage. possibly German.

 

Kem Weber worked for Royalchrome and did design similar chairs. The Royalchrome stuff seems to be well marked, and has a more substantial seat than this. He also worked for Lloyd Mfg. and designed tubular chrome furniture for them as well. I am not familiar with those designs.
