Hello, I'm new!!

  1. I was so glad I came across this site, I found it while looking for info into anitque jades. I'm collecting antique(hopefully some, at least) jades and wanting to learn what I can. I am being realistic, of course, and know that out of the many I've already purchased, I may have only one or 2 that might be authentic. I like this site because it doesn't seem to just focus only on chinese antiques, but others from other cultures as well. I just wanted to say I'm glad to be here!

  12. I have a cute little jade? servant that I wanted t
Hello Any, I've been reading some posts here about jades before I became a member and everyone here is so sweet and not bullying about jades that could be fake, I was really impressed. Since I've been collecting for a few years, I've never really got the hang of what to look for, so I'm being realistic, but still hope that maybe one of my statues could be authentic. I had one appraised, but the auction houses said that they do their own appraisals and mine wouldn't be any good, bummer! :)

If you need any help, just ask. Even if you've already started a thread and get stuck posting pictures, there will be someone who can help.
Make sure the photos stay below 1mb, and click on the 'full image' option before you post the thread.

  15. Thank you, I'm gonna try and post this pic of my little servant......Ok, what does it mean when only one picture I'm trying to download says too large? It's just one photo

  16. I'm really starting to feel silly here, I have no idea how to resize a photo, I just looked at the directions and have no clue. My daughter always did this for me.

ok, there are so many possible reasons a file is 'too large', that it might be very hard to figure out 'back and forth' what the reason is...
so, I will assume nothing, e.g., that you have no computer lingo skills, like what a 3 MB JPEG image is, b/c typically it won't upload because it was taken in high definition, or you are using an usual format ... whatever.
So, here's a 'relatively simple' way to resize and then load pics, if you are sitting at a PC (not Mac, not android or i-phone):

    1) open the too large picture on your desktop in whatever viewer you use (I picked a picture of mine that was over 4 MB, very large, tested it here, so sure get the 'too large' error)

    2) minimize the viewer (use the square next to the close window 'x') so it covers only part of the screen, not all of it upload_2019-6-6_20-56-59.png

    2) open the PC snip tool, i.e., click this: upload_2019-6-6_20-51-6.png it opens like this:
    upload_2019-6-6_20-58-27.png

    3) when it opens, use the cursor and drag a box around the open picture. It automatically creates a new box with your picture in it.

    4) Save this picture. go to 'file' and save this picture to your desktop. It will be called "Capture.JPG" unless you name it something else. Somewhere on your desktop you will find a small icon of it, like this
    upload_2019-6-6_21-1-13.png
I just checked the properties of this JPG image, and it reduced the size from 4 MB to only 22 KB.

Now just use the "upload a file" button on this page to find the image and load as you tried before. By hitting "full image" ... here's mine: Capture.JPG

4 MB down to 22 KB. still decent size. You'll get it.

[and for the techies, interestingly, this site apparently converts the JPG to PNG before it loads, increasing the 22KB to 197KB]
P.S. the reason I suggested minimizing the viewer is because that already 'shrinks' the physical size of the pic, so the snipping tool has less to snip. Of course if the item is already very small in the picture, you don't have to, and probably shouldn't since there won't be much to see by the forum members.
