I would welcome suggestions about manufacturer and date of the illustrated cup and saucer.

I illustrate the only marks on the base of the saucer. There are none on the cup.

My grandmother had six of these back in the 1930s, and they may have been passed down to her through the family.

Looks spot on for the shape. Which is what matters.

Not sure about Coalport -- looks very similar, but the rim is shaped on OP's cup and I don't see that in the Coalport photo. Some Staffordshire factory, I guess.

I think the rim is shaped on the Coalport photo. Here is one I’ve got. 0DAA218E-2236-45DF-9702-67AD6FC071B5.jpeg

I stand corrected. The photo didn't show the scalloped rim, but John's set looks the same as OP's. :)

I had a helpful email from the Spode Museum. They rule out Spode manufacture. It's 'not a Spode pattern, not a Spode shape and not a Spode pattern numbering sequence'.

From what I have been reading, the absence of a maker's mark suggests manufacture in the late 18th or early 19th century, as does the fluting.

A question. Is there a formal name for the type of intricate gold patterning on the cup and saucer? I have examined hundreds of images and can find no parallel.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Interesting question -- I hope you can get more information about these lovely items.
