Many years ago my grandmother gave me this picture and it hung in our guestroom up until we converted the room into a nursery. :)

It has always given my husband the creeps. I say he won't let me hang it but he would he just would never go in the room it is hanging in. LOL!

I don't know why it creeps him out so much I have never thought of it as creepy. The story is that this was a family member of mine. Like maybe a great great great uncle or something I honestly don't remember. He had a twin brother and there is another picture just like this one of his twin, somewhere.

Someone else in the family got that picture and my grandmother got this one. The other twin died from eating prunes or a banana or something or maybe they both died. Honestly I don't really know the story very well but this picture hung in my grandmothers house for as long as I can remember so when she passed it on to me I was happy to have it.

Although it is housed in a closet now because it did seem a little much for the baby room. :) My husband swears it is haunted and he just doesn't like it. I honestly don't know how old it is or much more than what I have mentioned here. I do think it is somewhat unique and just wanted to share it with you guys. I tried my best to get a good picture of it but it just doesn't photograph very well. Probably cause it's haunted. LOL! Just kidding. My husband really hates this photo. I can't help but joke with him a bit about it. Although, I will say that every room it has ever hung in has given off a vibe that you were being watched. Even the closet it is currently in has a weird vibe. Maybe I shouldn't joke with my husband so much. I never really though about that until now. Anyways, If it is haunted I don't' think the spirit would mean any harm. So there ya go.

I think the photo is interesting cause it does almost have a little color to it. It really kind of almost looks like a sketch if that makes sense?

I think the "creepy factor" comes from the combination of the very serious look and the out-of-proportion issues with the head versus the body and that long strange finger.

Is it under curved glass? That would also exaggerate certain features, I think.

Fig will be along to give you the skinny on these "photos with color." ;)

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

It is a solar enlargement, also known as a crayon portrait or crayon enlargement. Earlier today I posted some links to information on this photo method in a different thread on the Art forum here. Now I am on my phone and don't have the links right with me. The person who started the other thread was chantelle. Hers look less like the typical solar enlargements than yours does.

I haven't looked closely at your images yet. I am afraid to! Jk
