    Hi guys,

I‘ve been collecting antiques for almost 10 years now (startet at age 21). My first piece has been an antique Memento Mori Ring, which is still one of my favourite pieces. It dates to the early 1900s (attatched a pic).
I‘m not limited to a specific collection area, but I prefer very rare pieces in mediocre or even bad condition. These are often pretty affordable and are still beautiful display pieces. To this day I own boxes, bottles, drawings/etchings, jewellery, hand fans, furniture and some more. If you are interested in some of my pieces, I‘ll upload pics.

I‘ve also a collection of literature and read hundreds of hours about many collection areas.

    Kind regards from Germany,

    Simon

My specialty is cameos & other engraved gems, so your piece interests me. Is it glass?

Thanks for the hint, I‘ll upload full size pics. The stone is Onyx, the metal is 830 Silver.

Enclosed two of my other pieces. The softwooden capital is from Spain. It was transformed to a lectern some time ago. This dates to the baroque era, probably to the 1700s. The green seems to be chalk paint.

Another of my favourite pieces is an antique french drawing of a skull. The handmade paper has a watermark, an invoice is written on it.
The blue is azurite or Milori blue.
I got this piece framed professionally.

    Hi,

I‘m pretty sure it‘s not a modern gothic piece. This high quality seal ring has a hand engraved onyx. It comes from an estate of a deceased jeweler.

I sadly coudn‘t afford more than one at this time. I chose this because it was the only piece with additional engraved bones. It‘s a german piece marked 830. In 1886 german silver stamps were standardized. From 1886 to about 1940, 830 was pretty common. After that period 925 has become popular. I think this piece dates to the 1920s or 30s.

I often have trouble distinguishing figure from ground in photos & thought your piece was a cameo that looked as though it had been chipped, which is why I thought it could be glass. I see from photo above that it is an intaglio & intact.

Very cool piece; I can see why you wanted it. My interests have me looking mainly at Victorian era jewellery. Have not seen anything quite like it, so think your assessment that it is 20th century is correct.

Photos are often misleading. Mine is also magnified about 5x. The other pic is from the auction back then, which I printed on paper (now I store them in the cloud).

I wear this piece pretty often and definetely had a few small collisions with the ring. I sadly also dropped it once on the bath tiles. This seems to have resulted in a chip. Didn’t notice that. Shame on me:(

Similar pieces are sold from time to time. I also never saw one with additional bones again. This piece was sold on etsy lately:

I totally understand that. I love these Memento Mori pieces, especially if they are made by a skilled artist or craftsman.

    Hi,

here are two of my very rare pieces, one in mediocre and one in very bad condition:

This little Wedgwood Scent Bottle dates to the 1790s. Most of them are in Museums and big Wedgwood Collections. I bought this piece in very dirty condition with mineral sedimentations. It was used as Snuff Bottle for a while, I found many leftover snuff. It was very difficult to remove the partly big and hard pieces.
All in all I needed at least 5 hours cleaning. Of course I used only mild natural things (alcohol, distilled water, citric Acid, vinegar essence). It has some hairline cracks and small losses, but nothing serious. Could to this date be a 1/1 piece. I found the exact motives of Jupiter in a museum:

and young Jupiter with a goddess (Amalthea?):

And here is a very rare french cockade fan from the late 1830s or early 1840s. The damage is pretty serious, the connection piece is missing, also a bronze knob and a guard. Very few of these were made and this is a highest quality one. If anyone finds a similar piece, please tell me:)
Fan collecting is all about condition, so this piece is not of any mentionable value. The craftsmanship and beauty of this piece is amazing, thats why I bought it. I plan to frame it.

Sticks and guard are made of tortoise shell. The leaf is probably silk-based.

The chinoiserie-inspired decoration is beautifully made in different gold/silver tones. The fashion plates are painted with gouche on mother of pearl slices.
