It appears to be carved rather than molded, and it's obviously a human leg shape. No schreger lines; I looked under a 40x loupe. I DSCF1606.JPG t's bitty - about 1.75 inches long, 45mm or so. And it screwed onto whatever it was part of.

It turned up in a box of bits I picked up this weekend for some art deco matchbox covers and the seller knew exactly as much as I do.

Looks like a leg from a doll, to me(?)

The doll would have had to be permanently seated; I've never seen one like that. Some sort of statuary maybe.

Doll's leg makes most sense to me. Looks threaded, but grooves may just be to stabilize movable leg in socket & whatever kept it from popping out has broken.

Edit: Subsequent comments point out what I should have noticed: it is not a hip joint. Also, foot has very adult look, not the little curled toes of baby dolls. Second toe longer than big toe, the classical ideal. Foot not positioned to stand, even in high heels

OK - I'm, uh, stumped.

Well, that's a knee, so she would have to be sitting, as evelyb30 said.

A lot of detail in the foot, not a doll person but it seems odd.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

That's possible. Faux bone means the seller didn't have a clue and didn't even want to mention the possibility of ivory.

If that's a threaded mount, then the leg would need clearance to rotate through 360° to be attached. Could be fun.

I really don't think it's from a doll .. much more likely from a figurine, most likely a pair at one time , beautifull modelling, .. Joy.

It's a neat little thing, but you have to wonder what happened to the rest of her.

It is possible that it's resin. Certainly some of those '30s statuettes have been reproduced, which I believe is the case in Fig's link.

The aesthetic style reminded me of the Chinese medical dolls, but I can't find any examples with removable legs. Possibly a version from a different locale? Caution- Google at your peril, some dicey images pop up! :wideyed:
