It looks new, or recent at least; I think the mark tells that story: It feels an' looks like it was acid-etched, then stained...it probably says the jar was made by someone now long dead, unable to defend his name.

Nonetheless, attractive for its color, and the Phoenix? I am nothing if not simply amused. Your comments are welcome, as always...thanks for lookin'!

Looks pretty new to me too, but the colors are nice and it has the inner lid. Yellow wouldn't have been used on the old ones.

    Yup...understood...Imperial exclusivity.

I have been less than fully forthcoming in this initially. The outer cap has been broken, I'm sorry to relate. But, conveniently placed, it displays well.

It's Japanese, and as such it is a Ho-o bird which is their equivalent of a phoenix. On the right column it says Great Japan, on the left it says 'made by Ekashira' - interestingly 'Great Japan' was rarely used post WW2 as it is/was a nationalistic form of writing Japan and was shunned due to history. So it may be early 20th century.

Thanks! I'm grateful for your translation...an' I should have spotted the Great Japan, having seen it a few times. Good call, also, on the pre WWII probability. I'll be looking into Ekashira.

Nice -- I would've bought it in a heartbeat -- it's a nice piece and yellow is my favourite colour. The colour palette is very 1920s to me.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

It is very pretty. Too bad about the lid, but have that part facing a wall and it will look great!
