This is made of a gold colored metal with either a silver wash, or the silver plating has worn off due to age, can't make up my mind. I think this is a belt? Not sure, measures 44" long. Any help with age, origin, and what it is, is appreciated! 59791401_1527675080698390_6086520024858624000_n.jpg 60344000_2058698987757239_8965205585666506752_n.jpg

The tassles make me think of items from India, but I don't have any expertise here.

Wow, almost exactly the same, thank you so much for finding this. I would have never thought of "lariat" was just looking for tassles. She said hers is at least 20 yrs old, and mine has more wear on the plating, so I feel safe to list it as vintage.

If I remember correctly it is actually worn over the head, probably attached to a headscarf or veil, with the tassles hanging down the back. Afghan, I think.
Many were brought over by people on the Hippie Trail.
Here in the West you can wear it any way you like, of course.

The bells are generally either Indian or Afghani; I'm not expert enough to always know which.

It is often a grey area, because of trade and nomads travelling in the general region.
To confuse matters, those jhumkas, or domed pendants, are also seen in both countries, and even into the Arab Middle East and parts of Central Asia.

Well one is the jhumakas and the other one is Alcahor, I guess.
