    Hey Ceramic Fans,

I come across this cookie jar whilst thrifting. It is soooooo ugly, it's beautiful! Puffer fish? not sure.

The glaze is bubbly, which adds to the unusual-ness of this cookie jar.

    Measures 12" x 7" x 6 1/2"

no identifying marks other than a date of "1970" on the bottom so i assume this was done by a hobbyist?

    Any input is greatly appreciated.

I've seen uglier cookie jars. Just sayin'.

Looks like maybe like one of those glaze your own hobbyist pieces, with the date like that.

Reminds me of a highly venomous stonefish!

A stonefish cookie jar! That's hilarious! Like something from Charles Addams.

    Agree on the hobbyist diagnosis.

Is that really a cookie jar??? (How unappetizing!)

It looks more like something to serve fish stew!

I like it; it's so bad it's good. Some aquarium or other fish freak would love it.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The 1970 might also be a mold number? Sounds like there is more than one of these out there.

I agree it is off beat and probably not for cookies, except goldfish snacks.

Yes, it's definitely "grandmajolica". What horrors lurk when you turn bored housewives loose with green ware and a shelf full of glazes.
