Going through a bunch of family stuff. My grandmother was a huge sewing and embroidery enthusiast. There are yards and yards of fabric and heaps of sewing paraphernalia everywhere.
I’m finding some stuff that was tucked away in chests that seemed to be more “important” to her, I’m posting a couple today to see if I can find out more about them.
The first ones look like placemats or napkins, I’m assuming done with some automation/machine.
The second is labeled “scarf”, although it seems like terrible material for a scarf and also seems rough/undone around the borders which makes me wonder if it’s a pattern or something.

Any help would be appreciated, and as always Thank You!

The first ones look very similar to some I have that were my parent's. I always thought that they were Mexican but I'm not sure that's right. I'll have to locate them and see if there's a label. (And make sure they are as similar as I'm remembering).

Shwikman, the second example which you said is labeled "a scarf" is what would now most likely be called a table "runner" to go down the middle of a (dining) table.

Scarf: dresser/table scarf or runner. Not a scarf for around your neck.

    Got It!
I was actually thinking it would look good running across a buffet or table, that’s funny!!
How old do you think it might be? Does it look “home made” to y’all?

You don't mention a size on the first pics, but I'd guess they are placemat size and too big to be napkins.

Checked mine and while similar there are also differences. Unfortunately I found no labels on mine.

    Thanks! Yes, that’s similar!
There were some others that definitely looked Guatemalan and I know there were trips there so it’s quite possible they dipped into other countries around the area.

Most of the stitches in the first image are cross-stitch. It looks very nicely done.

On the placemats a photo of the back might give a clue as to whether it was homemade.

The table-runner I think commercial made because of the identifying marks/size. Wondering if those marks are the kind that were meant to disappear once it was washed, tho they look permanent to me. Seems kind of odd that made/size would show on the front.

Maybe the border in the second piece was supposed to be tucked under as a hem?

The small ones have cross stitch and drawn work and that makes me think Scandinavian, but can't find anything similar right off, so I could be way off. I don't see anything to suggest machine work.

May be helpful to see the backs.

EDIT: Actually, I believe the border is pulled, not drawn.

So, I popped over to aliexpress to see what's going on in China with cross stitch placemats and I found some pieces like the one below.

Yours are much better, IMO. But it's also a possibility that they're new and Chinese.

I bet you that runner was from the Old America store. Remember those ?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The scarf/runner looks commercially made to me, too. It reminds me of the type of thing that is purposely made to look "rustic" for those who decorate with that look.

However, about the print on the front... I also see corners printed on the fabric, as if it was supposed to come up to that point. Whether that goes along with the half-finished rustic look (pretending that it was homemade and never finished) or whether it was actually never finished, it's hard to say. I do know that I've seen lots and lots of things that supposedly look old, on rough fabric like that, but are basically brand new!
