Featured Can someone decipher these Egyptian (?) silver marks on scarab jewelry?

Hi everyone! Both bracelet and earrings test as sterling. They are a bit rough around the edges, you can see the older discolored glue on the scarabs. Can you make out any of the markings? I've tried and given up! What date do you think they are roughly? I'm guessing revival pieces for tourists maybe? Thank you!

 

OOH! Clips. Want. Looks like 90 for the purity. I can't see an assay office mark. I'd think 50s ish.

 

The earring clips say 800; OBB is correct that the other mark is for 900. Place of assay is too sketchy for me. AJ may have an idea. Sometimes there are date marks, particularly on a larger piece like the bracelet, but all the ones you have shown us are for fineness. Sometimes the marks are not where you expect. They can be on the front of a panel, mashed into a decorative border, for instance.

The use of ankhs in the bracelet is a bit unusual & suggests to me a bit later than 50s.

 

In the photo of the 2 earrings' fronts, I think I can see an 800 mark on the rim, just below the beetle's head, on the one on the right. Probably other has as well, just can't spot it.

 

You could well be right but I can't seem to see any other marks, my eyes are going crossed looking . I will take a look in daylight I think.

Looks like marks between the scarabs on the ankhs.

 

There are some dinks and dents on the silver but they aren't decipherable as markings.

 

There appears to be marks on the twisted wire below the scarabs also. Do you have a loupe or magnifying glass?

 

On something like the bracelet, composed of a number of separately made pieces, there tends to be a fineness mark somewhere on each major part.

Unfortunately my computer ate my Egyptian assay marks file, so I am a bit lost at the moment when it comes to date marks. I do remember that one dot on the fineness mark means pre-1970 or pre-1975, so that is a start.

If you can find a lotus mark anywhere (shaped like the lotuses on the clips etc), could you check if it has tiny dots next to the lotus?
Marks can and will be anywhere on any of the parts.

You were all right of course! Here are another few marks (in the areas you suggested). They may be the same marks as the ones already identified. Apologies, the pics aren't great- they are very tiny!

Having done some recent basic research re: scarabs, I presume these are faux scarabs, not antiquities?

They could be either. Scarabs are still made, but you can buy ancient ones easily enough.

 

Would not the scarabs be glazed faience pottery? colored to resemble turquoise? Love the set!
