Featured Rigaud silver plate? Made in France pan / part of chafing dish?

This pan was found among a box of assorted silver plate items. It is marked Rigaud Paris Made in France on the bottom, it has the number 20 on the side by the handle with what looks like another mark beside it, but I can't make out anything even under a loupe. I have tried doing a Google search, but came up empty.

It is 9 1/2" across & is 1 3/4" to the side edge.

Does anyone know what this piece might be?

Rigaud is a French perfumer since 1852.
Mainly well known (here in France) for their fragranced candles.

I bet your piece was an expensive gift, perhaps for a gigantic candle to put in

This is silverplate, not solid silver, so I'm afraid the link to French marks isn't going to help. The 20 indicates the amount of silver used in the plating. The little mark next to it may be for the company that did the plating.

 

The favorite of Gloria Vanderbilt. That's a fancy candle base. Likely had a matching lid. Here's Rigaud's current packaging.

Fyi, the brand launched candles in 1960 and packaging has remained the same so I'd think yours came from a special edition.

That would be one big ass candle since the pan is 9 1/2" or 24.13 cm. across!!!

Of course it could also have been used to hold 4 or 5 small candles with maybe some greenery.

I did have my doubts that it could have used for cooking since that handle would get a little warm.

I just remembered that this lot also contained a Tiffany muddler & a Christofle skewer, so an expensive candle holder would not be out of the question.

That piece ended up selling at a local consignment shop a few months back. I never got much interest on eBay so I just decided to sell it locally.

It came out of a large lot of assorted sterling & silver plate. I made most of the money back on the Tiffany sterling muddler that was in the box & I still have stuff hanging around that is from the lot.
